What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Welcome back, Stuart! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:
The quality of the knives you post seems not to have diminished while you were away!

Good to see you here again, Randy! :cool::thumbsup::cool:
I picked up a Chinese version of the 5OT at Tractor Supply last spring and I've been very impressed with it - ideal size and first-class locking action.

Splendid Lockwood Bros. pair, Bob! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

I know nothing about fixed blade knives, LT, but that stag Loveless is sure a handsome example! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Festive fistful of folders! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Brown bone bonanza, Steve! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Pruner to be proud of! :thumbsup::cool::cool:
I have a couple of Rite Edge knives that I'm very pleased with.

That's a memorable Curel, José; wonderful covers! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Hip Hip Hooray, Bob! :thumbsup::thumbsup:🤓
Glad the surgery went well, and I pray that you'll have a fast and smooth recovery. Did the surgeon guarantee that no modifications will be needed for your golf swing?

Thanks, Steve. :)

:eek:😁 Fun Friday the 13th slip!

Also a perfect selection for Black Friday! 🤓:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Dandy dark duo for Friday, Steve! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Superb knife, LT; love the bone color! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Both knife handle and "tree" are definitely spooky. :thumbsup:🤓:cool:
Have you ever carved your own jigging on a knife with smooth wood covers?

Outstanding bone and jigging!! 😲:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks, guys; definitely tasty! :thumbsup::thumbsup:🤓

Superb stag stockman, Dan! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Honest and honorable pair of knives! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

I had to read that twice, because I thought "spell check" changed picked to pickled.:) So I looked it up, and it appears to be a mostly English thing. My wife likes old English literature & when I asked her about it, she said she remembers reading about pickled walnuts, but thought it was just an English nickname for something else.

All the recipes I've found say that you need to pick green walnuts, before the hard, inside shell is formed. So these are way too ripe, but we may just have to experiment with them next year. Thanks for the idea.
You are very welcome.
The trees are quite rare and I have only ever seen them in the very old country estates. Pickled walnuts will not have been tasted by the whole country over here, partly due to expense, but believe me they are very moreish, those when pickled and marketed as a Christmas treat will fetch a dollar apiece in their jars, and you will be more or less guaranteed repeat business each Christmas.

If you make some send me a jar from the first batch!

I will look through the old cookbooks and try to find a traditional recipe.

Back from several days in the woods with family. These were my two paring knives for all campsite kitchen duties.

Another cloudy day in CNY. COVID day 7 here, and we're on the mend. Knock on wood.
Starting the day off with this pair.

Glad to hear it Gary :) :thumbsup:
RF Mosley, don't know if its the first or second one. Mosley's played a significant role in the British cutlery industry. I believe that they were the first manufacturer to make knives from Harry Brearley's (Firth steelworks) newfangled stainless steel in 1914. Hopefully will get some more info from the cutlery experts on here.

Work Knife of the Week is an Italian CEM agriculture folder with bubinga covers (I think) and a big sheepsfoot blade (on a massive sycamore leaf):

Recently, waynorth waynorth Charlie initiated a very rewarding thread about GEC's early years which is also an important reference point.

Dug out one of the Old Golds to carry and use today, most of my early GECs are 'useless' in that they've been in use and therefore no longer mint, desirable, scarce and coveted by the collector..... Actually, they're rarer and there's one less in the US due to me :D
