What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

There was a bear that cruised through the Walmart parking lot in Jefferson City a few years ago. Made the local news and everything 🐻

Its the law 👮‍♀️🚔 ;)
Missouri’s black bears had been wiped out a long time ago, likely when pretty much the entire state was logged. That started around 1880, and lasted until the ‘30s or ‘40s. Millions of board feet of shortleaf pine, as well as red and white oak.

But Missouri had tons of wild turkeys.

Michigan had the opposite problem ~ plenty of black bear, but no wild turkeys were left. So the two states made a trade.

It’s funny, and a bit suspicious that the Mo Conservation Dept continued to play dumb about the presence of bears in the state.

We used to hear about them wandering past freakef out ladies laundry on the line in their backyard when we lived there in the ‘80s.

This post made me laugh out loud. I 've been in similar situations regarding critters myself. :)
Nice knives too.
I sat still, really. Except for my thumb scrolling through Blade Forums. But all he did was swoop in, get sunflower seeds and fly back in the trees.

And thanks!
A couple of vintage carries today...Remington Jack and Shapleigh DE half congress.

Well chosen, Paul👍🏻
Gorgeous dye job on the Rem., and that Shapleigh’s bone looks suspiciously lije Schrade Peachseed!
Thanks...just passing forward the generosity of the porch.😃
Bob, you’re a good man.😎
Happy for Chris.

😁
Delightful Christmas Elf Ornament.
I can only imagine some of those heirlooms on your family’s trees.
Took this photo this morning, then got so busy I forgot to post it. 😄View attachment 2391155
Not to worry. We waited for you! 😉

Itching to get a patina on this

Beautiful shot. For the patina: send it to me and I'll make it my garlic & citrus knife for a week or two...;) but you may prefer to knock the shine/oil off the blade with rubbing alcohol and stir that coffee of yours with it, a credible start:) Patinated blade will look right on a white or light colour scaled knife:thumbsup:

Thank you.

My daughter wants to get a second tree just for my ornaments.

Haha yes! Even when I’m losing, I’m winning! Off to buy a lotto and claim the jackpot! 🤣 Thanks buddy. 🍻

Nice trapper, and great that it’s from your brother. I like the blue bone red shield combo, I have a stockman like that. It’s cool in Tennessee too!
Thank you much. It’s the only one I have with a shield like that.

Todays meandering with my Bunny.

I Bought a record, had a coffee and paid my respects in another town.

Im a big fan of JCM this song reminds me of an old flame (well she was young at the time).

She was always saying "hold onto 16 as long as you can".

Gonna let it rock
Let it roll
Let the Bible Belt come
And save my soul
Holdin' on to sixteen as long as you can
Changes come around real soon
Make us women and men

Awesome blade, great album.

Ok, it's no more cane day. To celebrate, I have a give away.
You're a swell guy Bob! Glad you're not swollen anymore though.
I was immune to poison ivy well into my thirties. Then one day after I had been surveying, I discovered that I was no longer immune 😨
I had been so blase about it that I didn't even know what it looked like. I learned fast ;)
Same, grew up immune. Was pulling really thick vines off my friend's house barehanded one day (it was overgrown and I was immune) and the bark stripped off in a few places and milky poison ivy sap got all over my hand. You know the rest of the story. I've learned *exactly* what it looks like because I'm very allergic now
Thank you, Todd. A nice pair yourself, my friend.

That is a killer 85. Perfection.
Thank you Paul, Mike's work is truly a delight to carry and use. Best walk and talk I've experienced, amazingly thin and slicey grind. I wish he'd make some with secondary punches...

Holy crap. I thought that was a GEC 85. I feel like an idiot. No wonder it's perfect lol.

Watching that thing being used is so satisfying. Thanks for sharing.
It took a while to find one, but I would start looking for another tomorrow if I lost it. It fits my needs very well. The quality of the knife is incredible. I have a couple other GECs, but the craftsmanship on this one is at the top of the pile.
o_O Are those feeding bowls there? And WHO are these visitors, a mother and three? Bears? Big Cats? Very :D whatever! Mind you, bear turds:poop: on a porch could be regarded as unwelcome....
No feeding bowls, I actually do my best to make sure there are no attractive items around. Looks like they were just drinking some rain water out of a few empty planters. They are bears, and it looks like a mother with 3 cubs! This is amazing to me as I have never seen 3 cubs with a single mother before. An amazing and beautiful site, other than their close proximity.

Here is a picture I took from earlier in the year before these guys fattened up for winter.

Fires & camp knives & bears oh my!!! 😂
Haha, hundreds of miles apart, but yes. Would be much nicer if I was at the homestead fire pit instead of a hotel lobby. Couple more visitors near the fire pit recently.

Great pic! They sure are beautiful critters. You're fortunate to have them around (or maybe not?). The only bear I've ever encountered was on a trout stream a couple of miles off the main trail. I literally made eye contact with it at about ten yards as I took a big bite out of a chocolate pop-tart. As my first live experience with a bear, you can probably imagine what was running through my mind (and waders). Needless to say, I was finished fishing for the day.

Watched an episode of Cheers recently and they mentioned Mellencamp as a “new and young” artist that Woody was hip enough to know about, but Sam had never even heard of! 🤣

Pack a hand cannon Greg!!!!!
I think your'e right Paul, I wouldn't stand a chance against a cat that size with any knife.

Welcome to the Upstate of SC. Hope your stay is lovely 👍🏼. You’ll be about 30 min from me.
Thanks, Jon. The wife and I always enjoy visiting your state, its a very scenic part of the country. My oldest and youngest daughters, (of 4), both reside there along with son in law and two grandkids. We'll do some hiking in the surrounding hills, site seeing, and enjoy family and Thanksgiving there. It's become and annual trek and tradition. :)

I haven't been able to stop carrying this dumb knife. Most days this last month or so it's just this, but when I carry something else, this thing barges in and comes along too. I was impressed with the way my Case Mini Copperlock carried like a small knife, but cut like a normal size knife. This Sodbuster Jr. is that times ten.

Good Morning Porchsters,

My son never carries a knife unless camping or fishing yet we need them daily at work, all day " Dad pass me your knife, pass me your knife".
So today I am going to carry his knife that I had made for him when he was six or seven and then when he asks for a knife I am going to pass him his! For me I will be carrying what looks to me a Office carry, as opposed to a tradesmans or farmers type, obviously built for the lighter duties encountered, string, paper and pencils etc but office guys like knives too!

ablettelliot.jpg
does that count as wooden Wednesday?
I can just imagine the incredible faux pas if the office worker, doctor, dentist, teacher, engineer pulled out a farmers knife at work! I wonder if they took the piss back then?
