What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

23 Jack with ‘loid scales, and Loewen Messer with pretty wood. The Jack is old ~ late ‘40s, I guess. No idea how old the Lion is, but it sure looks old. Harry gave it to me.

If you’ll forgive me, I thought I would take and share some pics of what we are still eating out of the garden.

Two beauties still earning their keep.👍🏻
Does appear you had a great year with your garden Jeff.👌

Thanks Jack, two of my favorites. It was a selfish celebration, but was happy to include others.
Very nice choices to keep your pockets happy today.👌
Far from selfish Bob! :D :) Thank you very much my friend :)
Thanks Jack, my students are keeping this old man hopping! 🤣

Nice pair Jack. 😎👍
LOL! Thanks Todd :)
I'll be toting these two as soon as I'm out of my pajama's and on the rode. :) The 74 will ride in the back pocket and the 66 in the watch pocket.

Great photo Greg, and a fine pair to get you out of your jim-jams! :D
Nice pics Jack !
Thank you Steve :)
We have them in SW Michigan, but last I knew they were deemed to be exotic pets abandoned in the wake of a law like yours, not constituting a breeding population. Which we all believe, like, totally.
LOL! :D

Here's Dick Dale with one of his big cats! :D

A very attractive ensemble Bob :)
In all the times I’ve looked at pics of your Hartshead Barlow, I’ve never noticed that crooked little ridge in the stag. Quite distinctive, and very cool. 🤙

Regarding your second pic, to satisfy my curiosity, please take a minute and count the rings on that beautiful old tree stump.
You may need these, being a man of a certain age…View attachment 2391724Heck. I need them to look at this thread.
LOL! :D Thank you very much Jeff, I'll add a bonus pic! :D Like the veins in Stan Shaw's hands! ;) I would DEFINITELY need my specs to count those tree rings, but what about my memory, I'm not sure I could count that high without forgetting where I was?! :D

The patina needs help ...

I might carry this one till the end of the first quarter.
I "need" to resume totin' a 110 (or 7OT or 2 blade slipjoint folding hunter) daily for another 60 consecutive years ... give me a excuse to stick around till I b 128 or higher. 😁👍

Thanks, Jack! Every time I see that photo of Harry Brearley, I think about the mural on the back of The Howard in Sheffield, which had sadly been vandalized by the time I visited. (If I remember correctly, it has since been replaced with something else.)

I don’t know why I didn’t take a picture of it when I was there — I must have passed it at least three or four times in the 24 hours or so I was in Sheffield — but for now, at least, it’s still preserved on Google street view, in tact from one side, and as it was when I was there from the other.

Thanks Barrett.
When I first received my ancient I thought I got a botched bolster.🫣
I slowly realized it's "ancient"!🤔
Nice pairing Barrett.👌

Professionally and intentionally botched. 😁

@PenisMightier Dude, you Price-is-righted me. 😑

Imagine Bob Barker having to call that name up to the stage. 😳🤣

If I see one of those at the next Badger Blade Show, I’m digging out the wallet.
🤙

The guy I bought those two Schrade 5OTs off of might be a good place to look, he usually has stuff like that. I was surprised when he remembered me this year. I was browsing his table and he said, “Hey, aren’t you the guy I sold those two green Schrades to last year?” I bought another USA Schrade and a Wenger Swiss Buck from him this year.

Sorry hit button by mistake...oh well.😁 few minutes early.
Please forgive any mistakes.

Such cool little knives. I’m kind of addicted to picking them up whenever I find ‘em. I blame r8shell r8shell 😁

The wife and I always enjoy visiting your state, its a very scenic part of the country. My oldest and youngest daughters, (of 4), both reside there along with son in law and two grandkids. We'll do some hiking in the surrounding hills, site seeing, and enjoy family and Thanksgiving there. It's become and annual trek and tradition. :)

Sounds like a nice time, Greg. Enjoy!

Prior to 1976, you could keep any sort of wild animal as a pet here, with few, if any, regulations. Just round the corner from where I live today, a mile or so from the centre of Leeds, a man kept a full-grown lion in his garage. The poor beast was chained to the floor, and school children queued up to see it, paying a penny a time. One day, the lion escaped, and was roaming the, normally busy, streets, for a couple of hours, before the police turned up, tranquilized it, and took it to a zoo. I understand that the incident led to a change in the law, and the introduction of the Dangerous Wild Animals Act in 1976. I tried finding a photo of the lion online, (as I remember seeing it on the TV), but it seems there were a lot of similar cases!

Poor guy lost his pet and a revenue stream all in one day.

Great patina and fantastic jigged bone on that #74!

I’ve got my #35 Johnny-on-the-Spot and Stag HHB in my pocket today.

Missouri’s black bears had been wiped out a long time ago, likely when pretty much the entire state was logged. That started around 1880, and lasted until the ‘30s or ‘40s. Millions of board feet of shortleaf pine, as well as red and white oak.

But Missouri had tons of wild turkeys.

Michigan had the opposite problem ~ plenty of black bear, but no wild turkeys were left. So the two states made a trade.

It’s funny, and a bit suspicious that the Mo Conservation Dept continued to play dumb about the presence of bears in the state.

We used to hear about them wandering past freakef out ladies laundry on the line in their backyard when we lived there in the ‘80s.

I sat still, really. Except for my thumb scrolling through Blade Forums. But all he did was swoop in, get sunflower seeds and fly back in the trees.

And thanks!

Well chosen, Paul👍🏻
Gorgeous dye job on the Rem., and that Shapleigh’s bone looks suspiciously lije Schrade Peachseed!

Bob, you’re a good man.😎
Happy for Chris.

A #72 Carpenter’s Whittler by any other name…

😁

Delightful Christmas Elf Ornament.
I can only imagine some of those heirlooms on your family’s trees.

Not to worry. We waited for you! 😉

Nice pic Bob :)

Thanks pal, it's very light and pocketable :)

Looking cosy my friend! :)

Congratulations to the winners :) You have outdone yourself Bob :) Having already been a victim of your generosity, I didn't think of entering, but also realised that as I remembered wishing your wife Happy Birthday recently in the Guardians thread, I had a significant advantage! 🤣

Love those knives

Lovely oldies Paul :)

Superb pairing David :)

Pair of stunners Paul

I've done the same myself Todd :D Great-looking pair :)

It's always nice to share your travels John  There is a similar bench outside our local library. Unfortunately, the plaque refers to the soldiers, from all over the British Commonwealth, who fell in WW1 (and of course the Commonwealth was not then established) That's a very handsome war memorial isn't it? After a busy war in Europe, my Granddad was in both Palestine and Egypt, with the RA

Priceless! 🤣

Having a few problems with the site this morning :( Happy pockets though ;)

Dandy duo of dark knives, Steve!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
When I was a kid, a Yankee drill like that was my favorite style of drill. I could control it better than the "eggbeater" kind of drill, and WAY better than a "brace and bit" drill with the big U-shaped crank handle and the knob on top.

I got fooled too. I had a letter I was going to mail today and held off because I thought there would be no mail delivery today. Then the mail was delivered. I think tomorrow is the day for no mail. Seeing as tomorrow is actually Veterans Day I guess that's appropriate. The banks in town were open also, much to my surprise. State offices were closed today. Normally everything's closed on the same day.
Yeah, that threw me off too. I finally "took a chance" and walked 3 miles round trip to the post office to mail a birthday card to a sister-in-law, figuring that "logic" would have the Post Office closed on Saturday, the actual holiday, since they usually are open on Saturdays, although for shorter hours. And I came up a winner!🤓

And thank YOU for digging up that link! Now I have something to read while we watch Hallmark Christmas movies!😎

I’m sorry to have broken into prattling on about guitars!
Now you know how I felt witnessing a Mathemagician pull The Lowest Common Denominator black magic out and re-calculate the 4/8” difference between Peanut and a Pen into 1/2”!🤪

I am glad you helped the Better 16/32 by toting her gear out to the car. Although that sounds harder than totin a guitar and amp to a gig!
Glad she’s doing well with the bionic knee.

Nice. And I like the old hand tools, too. Is that a Yankee Drill I see?
You're welcome, Jeff; I thought there was a lot of interesting info in those pages.
No need to apologize for discussing details of a topic that catches your fancy! It's eye-opening to me to read exchanges like that and realize how little I know about almost everything.

It still needs some touching up and ultimately paint or stain. It’s a very minimalist look, in large part because that’s the extent of my capabilities! Pics are from last December or January.

I don’t blame her, GT. Depending on what gate you land at, you could be in for a looooong walk at MSP.

I had these two with me today.

Once she knew where the Delta gates were relative to the airport entrance, she decided she didn't need wheelchair assistance on the way home.
I'm a big fan of knife-on-post photos, but you've upped the intensity with 2-knives-on-post-with-water-background!:cool::cool:

Dan, even as you get older, you're still a chick(adee) magnet!:thumbsup:😁

Beautiful fall day, lots of sun for this morning's hike with the pups...

Splendid knife, and I'm happy to hear that you're hiking with hounds so early in your hip healing!:thumbsup::cool:

Speaking of big airports, ever been to Denver International? You have to board a train to get from the gates to the baggage claim.
I was there several years ago but don't remember a train, but my only luggage was carry-on. I remember a lengthy subway ride from the gates to the exit at the Madrid airport.
