What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Hey all. It’s been a long, long time. Maybe years since I last stopped by. I’d gotten on a Victorinox kick, and my slipjoint collecting kind of abruptly ended.

I made this custom alox SAK last year, and it’s been in my pocket ever since. It’s sort of an Electrician Plus with an added wood/metal file layer, torx pivots, and a set of old cross scales that were kindly given to me. I also reused the old brass liners and lanyard attachment from an older knife.

I call it the WoodChipper. The intention was to create a rather minimalist SAK, based on the 93mm alox frame, with all the tools needed for wood working in a bushcraft environment. I’m happy beyond words with how it turned out, and it is now a constant companion in my everyday life, as well as nature outings.

I do still grab a more traditional slipjoint from time to time, as the need arises. The main ones being a couple of stainless Case mini-trappers. The Case Beer Trapper gets regular duty on my back porch, right next to the beer fridge, and the Case bone stag mini-trapper, with a wharncliffe blade, sort of lives in “that Drawer”, where everything I need kind of hangs out. We’ve all got one of those drawers, right? That wharncliffe blade is so thin and sharp and pointy, it does things that no other blade in my collection is capable of doing.

I’m not quite sure what to do with the rest of my knife collection. Part of me says to horde them all, including the extensive collection of GEC’s. The other side tells me to sell them off as I begin to downsize before retirement. I’m……… terribly conflicted.

Good to hear from you.

A rainy dreary day here in the City by the Bay! Heading out shortly to get my RSV and second shingles vaccination. The I am getting blood work done and getting my feet X-rayed. Rheumatologist is trying to get a handle on the arthritis in my hands and checking my feet while they are at it. Along for the ride the Harvey Special and #22. Have a great day folks! 😀

Among guitar hacks of a certain age, arthritis in the hands is a grim spectre.

Best of luck, Dan.
Thanks John, my hands are starting to get worse so they are trying to figure out what type of arthritis I have.
In my experience, things accelerate while we wait for a diagnosis.

Nice to see you Buzz , the WoodChipper looks eminently useful. Would love to hear more about the build process sometime.

These two for me today.
