What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Hope everyone had a good day and has exciting plans for the weekend. I’m totin these two at work today. A nice A Wright with smooth stag and this little GEC 66 stockman. I’ve been in a little stockman phase. I enjoy the 3-3 1/2 inch closed stockman patterns. Any bigger and I don’t tend to care for them.

You’re still seeing critters — all is right with the world…🤣👍🏻

Just like I figured ....... you baited me. ;) 🤣

It's clearly a multidimensional alligator. I see it in profile, nose toward the lanyard hole -- but I also see an aerial view of, I surmise, the SAME gator IN THE SAME LOCATION AND ORIENTATION!!! 😮 Be careful with that thing, @JW225 !!! 🐊

It does my heart good to see somebody else with the same magic 🧙‍♂️of perception, or curse, depending on how you look at it.
I think I'll call my shrink and cancel my appointment. On the other hand, you might ought to be looking in the yellow pages for a reliable critter shrink. ;)🤣
It's a shame that you live so far away or we could go critter hunting. No telling what we could come up with !
Nice cutlery, by the way. I still ain't decided on those striped britches on that TC though. 🤣

Now I'm picturing us hanging out at the lumber yard and having a grand old time! 🤣 Did you ever see that episode of The Twilight Zone where the guy saw faces in everything? I relate to that sometimes!! 🤣 Plus, my momma (may she rest in peace) said I didn't need no shrink - I just have a vivid imagination!! That's the story I'm sticking with anyway! 🤣

The striped britches are a confidence aid, see, hanging out with all the 86s, 36s, Granddaddy Barlows, and even an Opinel #8 😉 over here, Little Miss 15 sometimes gets to feeling a little puny - the stripes make her look a little taller than she really is. How can you begrudge her that? 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks, Bob. I appreciate the compliment my friend. :)

Thanks, Johnny. :) Yes I do use them myself. I shoot various targets at ranges of 10 to 100 yards distance and also hunt with them. To be honest my accuracy is best kept under 20 yards in general and 17 yds or closer in a hunting situation. The long range target shooting is for fun only. I'll share a pic of the bow I was replicating when I made the one I posted earlier from a book of authentic Native American bow drawings taken from museum artifacts. I've made several replicas of different bow styles, from different tribes, taken from examples in this book. It's a hobby/obsession of mine. Thanks for your interest, friend. :)

I have never shot a bow I can see how you could get drawn into it (see what I did there).

The history of the English long bows is very interesting.

Sunday they would have to practice and no games or other hobbys where allowed to that end.

Vast difference I would expect between bows for hunting and those to pierce Knights armour.

Have a nice friday ;)
Lotta nice critters in the bottom one.
Is that a hunting/ready to pounce Dire Wolf by the center cover pin?
Almost looks like a Platypus next to him. 😁👍

Is that law still in effect but ignored, or was it repealed?

I researched it back in 2018, but there was no cear conscensus.
About half of the articals I found claimed "In effect but ignored." with the other half claming "repealed"; but not stating when, or which King or Queen repealed it.
(kinda makes me think the "in effect but ignored" group is correct. 🤔)

Another thing I've wondered about:
The law said the Sunday Practice was to be supervised, taught, and judged by the Preacher.
Why was the Preacher presumed to be an "expert" Archer?🤨

That law also required all able bodied men age 15 (I think it was, might have been a little lower) and up (later changed to 18) were required to own a longbow, and no less than three arrows.

Reason for the law was to have a reserve of trained archers for the "100 Years" War. (yeah, I no, it was closer to 126 years....)

Since I plan on doing some yardwork today, I thought I would switch up my carry to something more robust. So since a couple members have shown their K55K's lately, I thought I would carry mine for today. To echo 5Q's, it is probably my favorite lockback. Amazon was supposed to ship me the carbon steel version, but I got the stainless instead and just went with it.

The fixed blade I am almost done working on. I have the sheath all made up and only need to do the final reshaping of the bevels and put a nice edge on it. Might have to do that before yardwork today.

Have a beautiful day porchsters!

I hear the old longbows had about a 100 pound pull, and the surviving bow of an historical character nicknamed "Strongbow" has been estimated at a 150-pound pull.
[I probably should have said "draw weight" instead of "pull".]

I think I might switch from the Ka-Bar 1108 stockman (Orzit a "Cattle Knife"? Has a Pen blade instead of the Spey/Budding/Grafting blade. What's your opinion?) to the 4435 Imperial Frontier Double Eagle, sometime today.
They both have Rosewood covers (I "think"), to go with what's on the 60th Anniversary Buck 110 that's on my belt long term.
However, the Double Eagle's look nicer, to my ancient six (with bifocals) eyes. The Ka-Bar's are a bit ... "Bland"? ... "Boring"? ... Both? ... but are a closer match to the 110 color wise. The Double Eagle is much darker.

110 with both:

Which do you think looks best with the 110?
Dunno y's so difficult to get the Double Eagle's grain to show ... 🤨 Honestly! It looks ever so much better in person. 🙄😇

EDIT: Switched at 09:30 Mountan DST

Nice eye and interpretation

This wood is superb; depending on the light, it changes colors and shapes.

As a result, it's hard to get bored of it, especially as the grip is excellent. 🫶

Have a nice day!
