Yes it was a very poor pun on the French Kepi Blanc.

It seems far more practical in the hot Sun than the black wool beret we had that gave no shade to the eyes.

Also the name of the Legionnaires magazine.






To bring it back on topic when I was delivering supplies to 2 REP out in Bosnia they took me to lunch in the mess several times.

It was very good food, but no one seemed to use a normal table knife they all had massive personal knives they took out and used a bit like Rambo. 😁

I enjoyed the pun, and your anecdotes. It does not surprise me the French had good mess food, their MRE's are one of the few that have/had a shot of some sort of cordial in it.

Sorry for your loss, Zach.
My grandparents have all been gone for many years now. I think of them often, not so much with sorrow but with love and fond memories.
