No better way to spend the day! Way to go, dad!Today was my daughter Scout’s fourth birthday, so of course I had her Nifebrite #15 Scout with me.

This is the same knife I was carrying the day she was born, and I’m sure some of you will remember that I post a new picture of her with the knife every year on her birthday (a tradition I started with Eleanor, our oldest, and her Nifebrite #71). And, of course, I always have to re-post all the previous years pics as well.
Here she is the day she was born:

And last year, on her third birthday:

Here’s she is with her knife today:

We spent the day at the Minnesota Zoo, which is a pretty popular birthday activity for our girls. The weather was nice and we had a great time.
Here’s another first birthday to fourth birthday comparison (because the girls always insist on a picture with this tortoise sculpture). They sure grow fast!

I mentioned a while back that I was experiencing some frustration with the camera on my new iPhone compared to the 4+ year old iPhone it replaced (particularly when taking knife pics). I’m still not thrilled about some aspects of the camera on this phone, but I was impressed with the 5x telephoto lens, which I hadn’t used much before today.

This wolverine must have been on his union-mandated break when we passed by.

Here’s one for any fans of the GEC Beaver Tail series.
![]()
Unfortunately I hadn’t paired a Beaver Tail with Scout’s knife today. I went with the Sudbuster instead.

Mighty fine looking Muskrat.
It's always wonderful to see that Scout pop up every year.
Me too!!!Speechless!!!
Thanks.Very nice. I’ve never really been into canoes but lately they are starting to grow on me.![]()
Appealing matching handle textures on that pair!

Salubrious sowbelly!
Lot of lean and lovely "slim trappers" showing up in this thread the past week or two, from a variety of makers!
Is that Fess Parker on your brass Parker??![]()
The Parker World's Fair is subtle enough for work. The 18 later.
Dashing duo of dark knives, Jeff!![]()
I left some of my favorite green onions to overwinter, so they’d make seeds for me.

Nice pair of "morning after" knives, Barrett!...
Sounds like a nice little trip, GT! Enjoy yourself!
I had these two with me yesterday. I would’ve posted this last night, but I fell asleep trying to catch up on this thread!

WNorthwoods Gladiator (2010 GEC/S60v) in the pocket today. The production run was done in stag -- this is one of the prototypes in Buffalo Bone...

I hope the fix is successful and you're as good as new ASAP!Thanks guys. It's a real problem, but totally fixable. I've dislocated my prosthetic left hip three times now, twice in the last week. It's going to be redone on Friday with technology that is more resistant to dislocation. Six weeks for full recovery which is a gradual process. Mobility will be back to more or less normal a week after surgery. But I will still be on light duty. PT won't start during recovery but afterwards. So in the end, I'll be fine again. And a commercial for modern medicine. Miraculous.
I admire all the cool old scout knives you have, Tom!
Inspiring photos of a glorious spring day, John! This is England at its best, sunny but not to hot with vibrant green grass everywhere along with flowers etc.
Plus 6,000 year old stones, blows my mind.
It would be a big/difficult job nowadays to move them with a crane and a fleet of trucks.
But back then no roads, no nothing how on earth did they get them into place?
There’s absolutely masses of them in many fields.
Avebury.

That would handle looks stupendous after your linseed treatment, Rob!I rubbed a couple of really thin coats of linseed oil on my Case 11031 (1940-64 era) last week.
It's now nice and dry .... so I'll tote it today, along with my red bone 6220 from the 1965-69 era.
Up a little early today as the thunder this morning seems to be packing a punch ( rattling the walls kind of punch )

Tough to beat an ebony-WCLF-on-a-post photo, John!
You don't know how relieved I am to read that you have roofers coming in ED!The roofers will be here in about an hour. Today, they'll strip all the old house shingles off the roof and lay down the roofing felt and then tomorrow install the new shingles. I WILL NOT be on the roof - too dang old and shaky for roof duty. I'll be carrying this Buck 112. Sausage and waffles for breakfast. I certainly am glad the insurance company is picking up the tab!!!

I didn't realize that checkered knife had wood handles, Jeff. That makes it even more attractive IMHO!For Wooden Wednesday

Congrats on hunting down that splendid stag Calf Roper! After a long search I was able to snag one of these 66 calf ropers. And in stag no less! My only example of stag and I have to say, I now understand why people love this cover material so much. Got this a couple weeks ago and it hasn't left my pocket since. Its the perfect size for the watch pocket and every day carry. I hope everyone is having a good week!

Dang you have some nice knives! Thanks for letting me see them!
Great to hear...when you look back, you will be amazed at the recovery time.To all who've expressed concern and support over my hip issue - Surgery went well and I'm healing nicely. Expecting full recovery in due time. Thank you all for caring.
