What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

A pair of John Primble ISW Crown Jacks in well worn pick bone and blackened stag (c.1890-1940). I think this pair was made in the early days and in the same approximate time frame ..... my guesstimate is that both could easily be from the 1890-1900 time period. The picked bone must have been used as a worry stone for one of the previous owners. The bone is worn below where it meets the end cap bolster. Still a fine working knife though with hard snaps. ............. Like totin' history in your pockets. 😊 ............ in pocket slips, of course. 😊

Happy & safe 4th everyone.
Pleasant patriotic presentation, Bob, but doesn't that pale pearl knife represent "our enemy" in that war?

Nice tricolor display from a neutral country.

Received a couple of nice French gems yesterday😁

...
Congrats on the French pair!
I have a barrel knife from Le Sabot that I think is splendid.

Superb stars & stripes!

Boker Bicentennials.
I'll vote for the equal end spearpoint bicentennial!

My wife dressed our lab up for Independence Day. Mya was proud & wanted her picture taken.
Props to the patriotic pup!

Thank you very much for the vey kind words my friend . I just feel very good and comfortable when I carry those 2 old knives . I guess they just remind me to keep on keeping on .
The new John Deere is what I consider to be the original Gator model and the one that I have wanted for 30 years . We also know that we will need something to help us maintain our mobility around our property . For us , it has become a long way to the mail box .

Harry
You're welcome, Harry, and thanks for the info on your Gator. Glad you could get one after wanting one for so long!

Good morning Gary,
It must be German, which I don't speak.
Reverse is C.W.Engels
Engelswerk
Thanks, Bob. I took 4 semesters of German in college over 50 years ago, and used to be able to read German OK. But I can't even recognize the letters on the etch of your angelic knife to plug into an online translator.

Fantastic stockman variation!

Thank you very much, Gary.👍
It is 10 cm closed and 17.5 cm open.;)
Thanks for the info, José; good knife size!

Thanks, Gary.👍
No, this is the Rough Ryder Barlow Brown Stag Bone (Ref. RR1806).;)
Oops, thanks for the correction, José; I think RR does a good job with their stag bone.

Thanks Gary. My kitchen counters are well-lit, so it seems to work for the pictures.
I have some kind of special light my daughter gave me that I think I could use to make a light box for photos, but so far it's just an idea.

I carried my Camco today.

I admire that cool Camco you built, Bart!

The members of the porch prove time and again, what a great place it is. There is friendship, knowledge and generosity.
I need to thank JonMcD and Chris@321Bandaid for a collaborative gift. They did not just stick a knife in a box and post it. They coordinated having a knife, discussing a design, sending it to Glennbad, then gifting it.
This rambling cannot express my gratitude gentlemen.
Congrats on the beautiful knife, Bob, and accolades to Jon & Chris for their thoughtful generosity!

Life is definitely a circle. I’m sure I used something similar while fishing on the Beaverkill many years ago.
Simple, but ultra-functional, Alan!

Striking covers on that trapper!

Negative, the black scales were what caught my attention as I was scrollin down a well known auction site. It’s a quality lil knife
Very cool! What company made the all-black scout knife?

Hollyhocks, Jeff? The neighborhood 4th of July parade here is called the Hollyhock Lane Parade, after an alley that apparently was once called Hollyhock Lane.

Charismatic canoe!

Thanks Gary!! The Mrs is from GR and I have family in Grand Haven as well as Ann Arbor and Lansing.

For most of the trip we were at in-laws cottage on Lake Michigan a bit south of Ludington. No cell service, which was nice!

We had dinner at Divani to celebrate 👍🏽. Excellent service and food.

Got back to GR last night and heading back to Bmore today.

Thanks for the info and the vacation photos! Sounds like your family has lots of Michigan roots. Glad you enjoyed your vacation.

Another foggy cool day in the City by the Bay! After a three day stay in the hospital for an elevated heart rate and A-fib I’m back home on lots of medication and going in this Wednesday for a procedure to zap it back into rhythm. In the meantime keeping me company a beautiful blue lamb. Have a great weekend folks! 😀

Man, Dan, you're having a bunch of significant health challenges recently! I admire the attitude you're displaying through it all. Hope the heart procedure works like a charm!

Virile vintage pair!

Just back from Tennessee. Although I had other knives with me, for various reasons, I've carried the Cadet for 15 days straight. Other than a couple of kitchen knives, its the only knife I used.
Welcome back, Mike! If I was going to carry just one knife, some kind of Alox SAK would be a finalist.

Greetings porch folk. I haven't been around here much lately, been a busy past few months for me with much to do but catching up as of late.
Of course I'm still tote'n a knife or two each day and today its these two, Case 83 whittler in chestnut bone and a Rosecraft jack.
The Rosecraft has been in the pocket for about a week or more straight since it arrived, really liking this knife. I'm impressed with the solid build, its not too large and not too small size and sharpness of the D2 blade. Ordered two since it seemed to be getting a fair amount of praise here and the other will go to my son in law.

Welcome back, Greg! Always great to see one of your many fine whittlers. Congrats on the Rosecraft!

Iconic sowbelly, Frank!

I carried this Krein while doing yard work today. It was 104 degrees when I finished up but it’s supposed to get to 114, so I guess I beat the heat. 😁

I like hot weather, but triple digit heat is too much!

I love this Case knife Canadian Dan sent me,its quality the perfect pocket knife.😍

Ive started planning for what will be a very hard road trip for me this year,I just found out I am to old for some travel insurance companys. 😆

I will go less distance and stop more days in one place to get me breath back.

Should be Ace fun on my bike which is soon on 90,000miles. 😇

Sweet Case jack! You're going to spend an entire month riding around Spain? Sounds like an amazing trip! Almost 10 years ago, I spent almost 3 weeks in Spain visiting my daughter who lived there at the time. She took me to visit 7 different cities, I think, and each one had a knife shop!

Thanks, this one has a D2 blade and arrived pretty sharp right out of the box. And a nice small thing that they did was to provide a small pull at the end of the box to make it easier to open

Thanks for the info, Gary.

1955, Gary. Yes, Kalamazoo🤙
What did your uncle do for Gibson?
Right down the street from where my old Checker was built. 😁
And don't forget Kalamazoo was the celery capital of the world.
Jeff, if I ever knew what my uncle did at the Gibson factory, I've forgotten the details. Your guitar is almost as old as I am! Is it a "birth year guitar" for you?
Barrett, how often do you get your Checker up and running? That would be a great vehicle if you started a side gig with Uber!
Jer, thanks for the celery reminder; I think Kalamazoo had the first pedestrian shopping mall, too!

To me, that's the ideal medium stockman.

Ever wish occasionally that you were working again?
I still miss at least aspects of my old career. I'm finally vacating my campus office this week. It will be the first time I haven't had an office since 1973!

I hereby proclaim this as "Lucky Monday" 🥳🎆🎇
I was spinning on my exercise bike, earbuds happily playing bluegrass, reading a mediocre novel, when the seat post broke at the seat and I went over backward, three feet to the concrete floor. Somehow managed to land mostly on my left hip/buttock and right elbow 🤨 Didn't hit my head, Didn't break anything. Might be a little sore tomorrow, but it could have been a LOT worse 😯

The Livri is a fine knife for Micarta, I mean Lucky Monday :)

You ride your motorcycle for 100+ miles without incident, and then get dumped by a stationary bike?!? Glad you survived the fall relatively unscathed, Mike.

It takes a special kind of skill to crash a stationary bike 🤪

It is one year older than me.
But I gave up a ‘52 “Banner Head” J45 in trade to get it.

Headed out to Klamath Falls, Oregon (97 miles away) for a visit to our orthopedic doctor for a possible knee replacement for Cindy. A suspicious fire started at the place next door to the sister-in-law yesterday - only a mile from our place.. Took out about an acre of field grass and a barn. She's darn lucky she was home and spotted it just as it was taking off. It feels like Buck 112 weather and conditions so it's a Buck 112 on my hip today - a dress up for the city Hoyt Buck version. Breakfast is a toss up.
