We celebrated my daughter Eleanor’s 8th birthday today. She had a party at a trampoline park yesterday with all her friends, so today was just family time. We went out to eat breakfast at one of her favorite places, then went to the zoo (something that has become a bit of a birthday tradition for us).

It was warm and sunny most of the day, and the girls were more interested in playing in the zoo’s splash pad than walking around looking at animals. (We have an annual zoo membership, so it’s nice to be able to go without feeling like you have to do and see everything to get your money’s worth). Here’s Scout having some fun at the splash pad.

Such a treat to see the tradition and the growing up pictures ........ with the Nifebrite in her hand from Day One ! šŸ™€
I love traditions ! šŸ˜ šŸ˜ šŸ˜ ............... not limited to traditional knives.
Looking forward to year nine ....... not wishing my life away, of course. 😊

Stag/Horn Knife of the Week is a stainless stag JJ Martinez navaja de campaƱa that my daughter gave me for Father's Day 8 years ago:

Work Knife of the Week is a Rough Rider burlap micarta small work knife (thanks, Alan). A couple of weeks ago, it was my Locking Knife of the Week.

As always on Eleanor’s birthday, I had her Nifebrite #71 Bull Nose, the knife I had with me the day she was born.

Nice knife she has.

When I was her age (+/- 1 year) I visited the municipal swimming pool barefooted.
For the next 8 or 9 years, I had a horrible case of Athlete's Foot.
(Even tho I were/are/still is, as far as it is possible to being an "Athlete". šŸ™„)

There are EIGHT different strains or breeds of the Athlete's Foot fungi.
I had all eight concurrently. šŸ¤ÆšŸ˜³ā˜¹ļø
My feet were scratched raw. I was scratching the itch constantly when awake, and in my sleep.
The doctor finally prescribed soaking my feet in warm water after adding some powder that made the water (and feet) purple.
Quinsana Medicated Foot Powder heavily loaded in my socks, (a new bottle lasted 3 or 4 days.) and changing my socks 4x a day did not help.

SIGGESTION:
When visiting a splash pad, water park, public swimming pool, etc., where people "normally" go barefoot, Have her wear waterproof sandals, flip flops, beach shoes, etc. so she can't get a case of highly contagious Athlete's Foot. šŸ˜‡

I'd hate for anyone - child or adult - go through what I did. 🤨

Heading out to Klamath Falls, Oregon pretty soon for Cindy's appointment with her doctor. Cindy will fry up a couple/three sausages for a snack before we go. I'll be carrying a single blade Sowbelly in a belt sheath on my hip and Bunny #525 in a pocket with keys and change. Gonna be a hot one. The temperature is already 90 degrees.

We did get to see a bird show that they do a couple times a day, which was a first for us.

After the bird show and splash pad (and some obligatory Dippin’ Dots), we walked around one of the zoo’s smaller (and more shaded) trails that features animals native to Minnesota. A lot of animals were staying cool in the shade (who could blame them), but we did see a few, including a pair of pumas, which I don’t think we’d see out when we’d visited before.

And, as always, I’m going to subject you to a recap of the photos I take of her every year with her knife.

1 day old (Eleanor was born late at night, so her first knife pic was actually taken the next day):
