What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Just got this today. It's really nice, the best of the 3 GECs I have. Bit of a nail buster though.

I received one very similar to yours today also - I wonder if it will open more easily as it is worked a bit?

Mine (with garnet jigged bone) has been a real pain. Greg over at KSF suggested leaving it open (between the half stop and closed or half stop and open) to keep tension on the spring. Mine was quite literally tearing my thumb nail from the quick. After several days of leaving it in that position mine has begun to improve. It takes time, though. Just keep in mind that keeping it at the half stop won't work, it has to be between so that the spring remains flexed.

Best of luck. :)

Thanks so much for the suggestion - going to set it that way right now and let it sit for a couple days.

Mine was really strong as well, I flushed the joint with soapy warm water, followed by a wd-40 flush and finish with a couple drops of Hoppes lubricating oil. Then I worked it a little every day and 3 days later it is acceptable. I left it in between the open and half stop over night as well.

I NEED one of these in cocobolo, I just couldn't pass up that antique green large jig. Beautiful knife.

Lovely knife Gary, I may just have to look for one of those some time, maybe in ebony if available. It looks like it would be right at home in the kitchen as a boning knife too...

That's a great-looking TL-29 flatblackcapo. Some nice pics fellers

Carrying the Barlow Seth sent me recently today :)

I finally got this Rough Rider so sharp, that it takes hair off my arm, but noticed that the the bevel is not even on both sides. So back to the stones we go... freehanding does not fit me.

Jack - That Barlow looks real special!

I'm carrying another gifted knife today, this one courtesy of my good firend Uncle Andi.
This Hartkopf knife is a truly great piece.

That is one of the nicest RRs I've seen to date. If I could find that one somewhere with a secondary pen or sheepsfoot blade, I'd be on it in a heartbeat.

On the other side of the handle there are some blemishes, propably glue that has been spilled. Maybe some light sanding can take it off. The action is superb, there is zero blade play and there is no grittiness. Springs are flush in both open and closed positions. Considering the price, this is a great knife. I got a R R camp knife at the same time and it was flawless, only needed some sharpening.

I must say I was quite surprised by these knives.

Thanks Thom, ditto on your Hartkopf, a great-looking knife. I'm not always a fan of shields, but that bodice shield really works
