Boker Congress (carbon steel)
abortive entoloma (entoloma abortivum)
On my way home from work, I thought I'd duck into the woods to look for edibles.
Not much happening, but I went to check on a xerula when I noticed the season's first aborted entoloma. This popped up a good two weeks earlier than last year. Usually, they fruit in great number. This single specimen is a teaser, I guess. Delicious - a great starter mushroom because nothing else resembles it.

I come here tonight with my head hung in shame, for I toted no traditional knife today. I picked one out, set it on my dresser, and left it there by accident. All I had for the day was "something else" clipped to my jeans pocket from the previous day. I gained no patina from my strawberries at lunch. I had nothing to spin bottle-style on my desk. I offer a haiku as penance:
My pocket was bare
I felt the weight of nothing.
The sun mocked my grief.

Of course he gets credit. It was very well thought out. Besides, having to go all day without a traditional knife is punishment enough on it's own. No penance needed.

Its like when I was in scouts and we would forget or 'lose' something and woukd have to sing a song for punishment/payment. The haiku is way better.
