What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

3 configurations of the Queen #40 Gunstock. Spear main with clip secondary (my favorite), clip main with full-size spey secondary and clip man with pen secondary. What's your favorite? Have you seen any other configurations?

I don't have any Gunstock Jacks. But I do have large, medium, and small Jacks ~ serpentine, dogleg, and cigar, trappers, linesman, etc.

I can only say I like having two blades. If the 2nd is long, like a Trapper, I can keep one clean for food. If the 2nd is small, I can use it for things like trimming beans.

And almost all old used two blade Jacks I've seen, including my Grandfather's, show a lot more wear on the small secondary.

Meet the newest member of the Fleschwund family, Duncan.
He's settling in nicely.

That's interesting. I dug up this old pic of the Barlows I found at Dad's when I was cleaning it out. The Remington and the Case were Dad's. I'm not sure about the other four, whether they were Dad's or Grandpa's. Anyway, the secondaries look used, but in this case the primaries are worn more. I'm guessing it depends on what they were used for as to which blade got used more. I know the Case was used by Dad at his job as a millwright. I gave him the Remington after he retired so it didn't get used as hard. If the other four are Grandpa's, they got used on the farm.

Leaving for Tennessee in an hour or so. Its been thunderstorming here so I haven't been in a hurry to get gone. The storms seem to be pretty much over now. I'm only driving over to Indiana today. Tennessee tomorrow. I'll check in from the hotel tonight, but after that I'll be off the grid for a week unless I go up to the cemetery where I can get a cell signal...sometimes🤞

My favorite light duty travel companion...the Cadet! Surprise! :D

And yes, I'm a luddite that still vastly prefers a paper map 😏

I can see a farmer using the main blade. And it needing to be re-sharpened a lot. Among other things, baling twine is a little abrasive.

I always grab the free official state maps from the racks at rest areas on the interstates. I have a huge binder full.

Tell the truth, now. There's a sturdy fixed blade knife wedged down next to the driver's seat,

Keep 'er rubber side down ~ Drive Safe/Arrive Safe.
Are you sure you want to wander around a cemetary this close to All Saints Hallow's Eve?
