What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Jim, you're the only other person besides myself that I know has one of those Western 542 lockbacks. In my opinion the best of the 5" lockers.

Does it have Western's fantastic 1095? Is the blade coated like the L66, making it act like stainless?

Actually, Steve, the 542 has 440A stainless blades and springs, which I believe is the same stainless that Schrade USA used.
Nothing wrong with 440A. (Aside from being patina proof, of course.)
Western had a good heat treat and good edge geometry on all their knives.
My Western "Demo" knife the Army Reserves issued me 50 years ago has never given me any problems.
I "think" Western's 440A can be trusted as much as that by Imperial Schrade and Camillus.
