In spite of the annoyance of attracting animals of the Rodentia persuation. I look forward to filling my birdfeeders with black oil sunflower seeds and watching the birds this coming winter.

The angry looking hawk always takes off while I'm still fumbling my phone out of my pocket.
We used to hang the feeders right up close to the deck under branch cover to allow the birds an escape hatch, but I'm sick of supporting breeding colonies of chipmunks under the deck. Moved them farther out, which may lead to happier hawks.

My first thought was Cooper's, but I think you're right. They look a lot alike and I'm not a good ornithologist.
