he heard a big clunk and thought he hit something, while he is putting this on the radio I'm dodging his right rear tire that was bouncing straight at me
I really dislike when that happens.
A (now late from a heart attack or stroke, about 6 years after he retired from the Navy, after serving 25 years.) mechanic friend was test driving my mum's 19&73 Dodge 1/2 tonne pickup, after a tune up, auto trans fluid & filter change, rear axle lube change, and axle pinion seal replacement.
Somehow he missed the right rear had four busted lug nuts. (I
told him when I worked at his shop he should
always pop the hubcaps and check the lug nuts when a car/pickup/van/SUV came into the shoppe.

) The 5th decided to retire when he was doing 60 mph. The wheel and tyre passed him, and went "splash" in the river he was about to cross on the bridge.

He bought a used rim, brake drum, new rear brakes (and brake hardware), a used backing plate, and a new matching 6 ply 7.00x15 tyre for her pickup, since he felt responsible.
He said it was "only" a five mile walk back to the shoppe to get his tow truck. (He did not charge mum for the tow, either.)
The original wheel, tyre, and hubcap are still somewhere on the river bottom.
