What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Throwback Thursday, checking out this old school Camillus "Cam-Lok" 😁

Rufus1949 Rufus1949 was showing the Forum Knife from 2015 by Canal St. the other day and this prompted me to get my example out. It was the last knife Canal St. made I believe and was fortunate to get a very nice example. The snap is loud and the walk is proud, great stainless and NS liners plus very low joints making pocket carry very rip free :) My example had amazing fingerprint whorls on both sides (bookmarked) but as I wrote the other day, it's become a more mundane brown despite being mainly in the dark, shame. Think I'll start carry it more often, now have only the 13, 14, Forum Knife, the 18, 20 and this Canal St. but the 14,18,20 are all users so not bad

So much character and class in your example Will. I am not generally a two blade person, but that combination is a good working duo.👍🏻

I wonder if a bit of sanding all-over followed by a polish could remove any surface oxidation, revealing that nice character once again. Probably not worth it in the long run as it would just go muted again in the future but makes me wonder.

Been brooding about that.....thing is, the knife is really nice and rounded on the handles, pins and shield all flush, don't want to risk messing it all up ..... but I suspect it would reveal the previous glory. Don't know what finishes/stabilisation was used on the Bocote originally but it's odd it's gone dull in the dark ?

The original soon after arrival

KABAR, Camillus, and Wenger.
I will never forget how I acquired the KABAR. Moving my son, his wife, his son, and their dog Gatsby from Illannoy to Colorado towing the biggest Uhaul trailer my wife's SUV could tow. Loaded to the gills. In a blizzard. I-80 in Illanoy was covered in black ice. Had a semi pass us, just before a gentle curve to the left. His truck went straight. He rolled up a 100 yards of barbed wire and a bunch of small trees before stopping.
The snow started in Iowa.
I had a bid in for this knife on the 'bay, but had forgotten when the auction was ending. We stopped for gas at "The World's Largest Truck Stop" ~ I-80 in Iowa. In spite of the stinging wind, I forced myself to do the walkaround check of the trailer, and discovered the lights were out. So we went into the huge truckstop to see what we could jerryrig. I remembered the auction as we were walking in, and as we entered the vestibule, I saw there were only 30 seconds to go. I popped in a high enough bid, and hit Submit with less than five seconds to go.

Tried new bulbs, no worky. So I bought two battery powered taillights that attach via magnets.

The ride home with the empty trailer was hairy. I lost count of the vehicles off the road, mostly 4wd trucks and SUVs, even tow trucks and an upside down ambulance.
I just poked along at 35mph ignoring all the heroes flying by me in their lifted 4wd trucks. Passed more than a few of them a mile or two farther down, in the ditch or median up to their door handles in snow.

It's the nature of wood. Purpleheart is purple when cut, but turns brown. Osage Orange turns from yellow to brown. I guess it is the oxygen. You could try rubbing it with OOOO steel wool and rubbing in beeswax, but you may find yourself doing it again later. I vote just use it!

Miscellaneous Knife of the Week is a Rough Rider improved muskrat with 2 different kinds of blades (clip and Wharncliffe) and 2 different colors of covers (yellow and brown):

Lambsfoot of the Week is Union Jack, a rosewood lambsfoot my wife and daughter bought for me in Barnitts Hardware in York, England in 2017.
