I found this Winchester Black Box 3902 Split-back Whittler at the Shenandoah Valley Knife Collectors show in Harrisonburg, VA View attachment 3150932

While I was admiring my new pocket knife, we saw a snapping turtle slowly moving down stream. So we had to do the redneck thing and take a picture with it.

My grandfather was famous around here for his snapping turtle soup. He had a cabin along the creek, and in the Summer he'd wade along the banks, pulling a small John boat behind him. He'd bend down in the water, reach back under overhanging tree roots, or into the mud along the bank, and come out holding a turtle by the tail. He'd toss it into the boat, and move on to the next likely spot. I often wondered how he still had all his fingers, but he said that the turtles always go under there head first. I never tested his theory.:)

Another beautiful day here in the City by the Bay! Looking like I may be taking a hiatus from the Porch for a while. I’ve got some health issues to deal with, more gastrointestinal problems. In the meantime for Stag Saturday one of my favorite! Have a great weekend folks! 😀

I hope that you’re feeling better, and get those health issues taken care of soon.

The Caifornia Fair Plan fire insurance policy, for the house for the coming year, came in yesterdays mail. It took Cindy and Abby to get me up off the floor. Wrote the check for it this morning with the check book screaming the whole time and Abby refusing to look at me while I wrote it. Carrying this Rosecraft Pere David Stag Gunstock to ease the pain.
