I moved away about a decade ago. It was lovely there most of the timeI noticed your location. My late brother in law bought acreage and cabins on a lake a few miles out of Hesperia many years ago. Our family has a lot of memories of good times up there.
My grandfather was famous around here for his snapping turtle soup. He had a cabin along the creek, and in the Summer he'd wade along the banks, pulling a small John boat behind him. He'd bend down in the water, reach back under overhanging tree roots, or into the mud along the bank, and come out holding a turtle by the tail. He'd toss it into the boat, and move on to the next likely spot. I often wondered how he still had all his fingers, but he said that the turtles always go under there head first. I never tested his theory.I found this Winchester Black Box 3902 Split-back Whittler at the Shenandoah Valley Knife Collectors show in Harrisonburg, VA View attachment 3150932

While I was admiring my new pocket knife, we saw a snapping turtle slowly moving down stream. So we had to do the redneck thing and take a picture with it.

I hope that you’re feeling better, and get those health issues taken care of soon.Another beautiful day here in the City by the Bay! Looking like I may be taking a hiatus from the Porch for a while. I’ve got some health issues to deal with, more gastrointestinal problems. In the meantime for Stag Saturday one of my favorite! Have a great weekend folks!
