Ed, the westherman doesn't create the weather. His job is to predict it wrong.

Are you glad you switched from the swamp cooler to a compressor/refrigerant air conditioner?

Nice! My dad had a white Glen Campbell model that had been signed by Glenn. Im thinking late 80s. It was pretty cool to say the least.
 
Another hot one today. It may be our hottest day yet. It sure feels that way. Walking out the door is like walking into a wall. Sent me scurrying back into the AC. 95F with high humidity 🫠

Heck I gotta blame somebody. A short answer to your question about the swap cooler to the air coditioner is "no" but the air coditioner is doing a fairly good job.

The swamp cooler was mounted ten feet off the ground and it was becoming quite a chore to change out the pads and do other annual maintenance on a ten foot step ladder.

The new air conditioner is mounted in the same place and requires no outside maintenance.

The new air conditioner is a 14,000 BTU unit with a 12V plug and cools pretty good but takes time to cool the place down after returning from town, etc.. I got it because to go to an18,000 BTU unit, which I wanted, I'da needed a 240V wall socket which I did not have available.

Now, the old swamp cooler ran on 120 volts and displaced 5,000 cubic feet of air per minute and could cool the whole place down in less than ten minutes.

We thought the electric bill would sky rocket what with a compressor but so far it's been about the same as it was with the swamp cooler - we'll see over the remaing two months of summer. Anyway "Abby the Hoarder" is happy and if she's happy I'm happy - sorta:rolleyes:

Trying to catch up on all these great posts. We had our Maineiac friends here as house guests for 5 days. Now we need a rest!
