What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Garage sale knife from this morn did brunch service an hour ago...Also got old Maori adze heads (the original edged tool here in NZ..200-600 ? years old)...the two arrowhead pieces are from France and extremely sharp and similar to hold.....FES

That's a unique looking knife (at least to me). Is it your sense that the blade and handle are original to each other, or mated later in life? Either way, a terrific garage sale find and altogether a very interesting grouping of sharp objects. Thanks for sharing.

I would say that the handle has been added given the shape of the bolster...Barrel handle is very comfortable though...Super sharp and doing kitchen duty..Cost me$1.........The adzes cost me $19........FES

Carrying my Queen Canoe and Arthur Wright Lambsfoot today :)

Very interesting finds Fes. I like the knife, not sure how I missed it before  Yeah, that doesn't look like the original handle does it. Is the blade 'stainless', any other marks?

Welcome

arrowheads you say Fes? pretty big-scraper type blades maybe. Whoddevva. ya done good there mate.
Always interested me -the lack of flint in Australia compared to elsewhere. We do have flinty stuff not to the level of Europe.Neither the greenstone of the much newer volcanic NZ isles
heres a pic you will like-I took in the museum in Exeter UK-spearheads and blades made from glass and ceramic by Aboriginal people of West Australia in the 1880s circa.
beautiful to behold. These are made of discarded or maybe pinched bottles and insulators from the telegraph wires.

How does the hone steel work?? Never seen one in hand and I need to know! Lol

Looks good though!

You sharpen a blade with the flat sides and touch up (realign edge) on the edge of the steel. Works great with 1095 blades. I have Gerber Sportsman steels that work the opposite..(sharpen on the edge and touch up on the flats)

You're meant to hold it like this.....

.....but I generally just use it like a stone or hold one end and support the opposite end on a table or something. Works like a chisel too....on processing game (pelvis etc).

I have one of those from a garage sale, and wonder how I lived without it.

Not at all. Welcome and that's a great first post. This thread has more knives in it than any 5 other threads in any knife forum I know of. It is very dangerous thread to your wallet.

I am carrying my GEC 48 Improved Trapper in smooth ivory bone today. It's been a while since I carried this knife, but I really like it a lot.

Today i am trying my new Amber Bone SS Peanut instead of my usuall Chestnut Bone CV and a helping hand in the kitchen from a #9 Opinel carbone for those tasks a peanut struggles with...

Headed into town for supplies (you know, "corn meal and gunpowder and ham hocks and guitar strings" :) )

And these should handle anything I might run into....
