What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

My Chambriard Le Compact, with stag scales, very keen knife, out of the fire and into the frying pan ;)

My next purchase will be a Le Thiers - either Le Compact or or the larger Le Compagnon. Le Compact is more in line with the size of knife I typically carry. But Le Compagnon, with its slim profile, doesn't seem all that large. Anyone have both - and a preference?

By the way - beautiful photo - you've convinced me to get the stag scales.

Yes i have both in Juniper wood ( very fragrant ) Le Compact was my first and was a user but after a couple of weeks it developed side to side blade play, a gentle pinch in the bench vice took care of it but exposed the pivot pin, in the hand it is a nice little knife, the Companion is by comparison a lot larger than i thought, i bought them after watching Stefan Schmalhaus" excellent video on YouTube. To be honest i do not use either knife now, the Companion is to big and the Compact is uncomfortably small in the hand IMO. If you want to go French made then go Opinel for a bigger range and a lot less money, but enjoy whatever you get... Perhaps i should quallify my statement, if you do a lot of outdoor hardish work and have big hands the Companion is fine and as a gentlemans pocket knife the compact is also OK but if you have to import them from France i should think hard before you do...

Looking like -40F for the next few nights with a high of -5F, keeping this mammoth dogleg warm in my pocket.

I'm going with these for a while...

SWISS Army Knife + GERMAN "Bundeswehr" Knife on a nice purple bag that comes with CANADIAN Whiskey posted by a fellow from the US ... now that is what I call a nice international ensemble! Kudos to you, sir! ;)

Deskil, what's the size on that knife? I'm carrying my Diamond Jack which is similar.

I can answer that for you Ed as it's a great Jack. The Queen 51 is 3.5"/9cm and I think it's a better alternative to the CASE Mini Trapper or Texas Jack, if like me, you go for D2. The one I have is in their White Carved Stag Bone, has really nice thick bone handles and nicks on opposite sides which I've decided I prefer. I don't think they make it currently in the ACSB or Zebra unfortunately, but that may have changed. You can get it in Bird's Eye but I never really took to that stuff, tough mind.

Regards, Will

I agree with Will on the Queen #51. In Zebra, you can get the mini trapper with spey though. The S&M was available in MOP but is just slightly bigger.

Thanks for the pic Trand:thumbup:

What's the second one down under the BEM? Coco?? Looks very good indeed. The Zebra looks very decent too, these are compact sturdy Jacks.
