What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Another oldie, but, goodie!

Thank you, sir!

I've always wondered if those Ames in Chicopee, MA were related to the Ames who had the renowned shovel works in North Easton, MA which is only a few miles away from me. Similar concerns, overlapping times of operation.

Nice old knife.

Nate, this knife was an import from Germany. I have not researched the history of Ames in a long time and have forgotten most of what I read. I seem to remember a lot of the civil war cutlery was made by Ames, but how this imported Ames is related, I cannot remember.
I just found this:

I love stopping by this thread.

Falcons, Dan Burke and MT Damascus Dogs + many other wondrous great photos.

No envy, just joy that you share your good fortune in pics that I would not otherwise see.

The wear is just fantastic on this knife. You can see the use on the blade, and the pattern on the handle shows just how much it's been carried. All of my knives still look fairly new other than some patina on various carbon blades. Give my knives a few years and maybe they'll start to approach this. The SAKs will probably take the longest as they're built like tanks.
