What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Congrats on a great knife! The Woodland Special continues to be one of my favorite Barkies.

My first Bark River, and my first fixed blade. The knife exceeds my expectations - which is a rare occurrence.

Now I need to start using it.

So can someone tell me how to get the knife and the fire steel to get a spark?

I've tried sliding several knives down the fire steel - nothing. Then I tried striking it. Still nothing.

I must be doing something wrong...or do these Bark River fire steels not work with knives?

Anyone reading this post - please disregard. I figured it out. You have to use the edge of the spine, not the flat of the spine. Makes plenty of spark that way. Obviously, I'm fairly new at this sort of stuff, never was a boy scout.

1970 ten dot Case XX USA red bone mini-copperhead.

Dreamy.

New to me SAK Cadet, thanks Jone! I love the dark green on this one with the contrasting red shield.

Ah ha! I did wondering if you'd discover these Danish specials.

Very nice. Pity these are a tad small for me.

I carried my Charlow today.
Thank you Duane.

Today i am carrying my #09 Ebony Esquire in preperation for this one i just ordered today to help with my disappointment at last weeks Humpback Whittler.

Thanks! I've been thinning out the collection lately but this one's a keeper. The only thing I don't like about it is the horribly mismatched scales:

Case could do better and I wish they would, but that almost seems SOP for them with stag. That raindrop damascus makes up for it though. Great looking knife from both sides; it is very hard to see both sides at the same time, even harder when you are using it. :D

Due to your inspiration and the fact that Wednesday is upon us once again, I'm carrying this one for the day:

Andy, a large part of your problem was the black coating on the new firesteel. Using the edge also helps, but by the time you got around to using the edge of the spine, you had probably scraped off most of the black coating on the side of the firesteel that you were using, therefore making it work :)

Nice burl on that Woodland Special, one of my favorites as well!

Who made this beauty for you? Looks like CF bolsters with either ivory or white G-10 handle?

Glad you like her. The maker is JD Ellis from South Africa.

White paper micarta with G10 liners and LS/CF bolsters and 14C28N blade and spring with flatgrind. I really love this knife.

I've never seen a Case Swayback like that before. Is that a custom, is it carbon, and what kind of wood is that?

Looks like the oak handles, which I think (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) is only offered in stainless.
