Thank you so much, Andi! Other than the front haft it's a wonderful knife. After a really good cleaning it turned out to have hard snaps and no wobble. The front is even growing on me as I think about its history. It looks like it was burned and the bone cracked. The seller said it was from an Amish family in Iowa just north of Bloomfield. It had been repaired with epoxy and I think I will just leave it as is. I don't think one could sand down the bone to get rid of the burn marks anyway? Even though I don't want to get rid of the burn marks, I wonder if you can.
 
Hanging nervously around home this morning with the dogs. After 30 years wearing glasses I'm having LASIK this afternoon. Wish me luck.
