What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Still running around with that Fight'n Rooster canoe in my pocket today. My last post in this thread was 6/3/10 and I carried that Benchmade that day because I had misplaced the canoe.

I think this old canoe is going back in the knife case Friday if my new one comes in. It's a single blade bare-end canoe by Jeff Mutz. It's my first custom and I'll post up a pic when it comes in.

Until then the old F-R will be with me.

A (probably) Chinese or Pakistan made 'Barlow' which is actually more of a trapper - about 3" closed, clip & spear blades. Bought in a hardware store recently when I'd travelled with only a keyring SAK and felt the need for a larger blade. Fit & finish is pretty good. Bolsters both ends, pakkawood scales with resin infill where they have slight gaps. Nice touch I thought - better than just leaving the gaps! Unfortunately it's let down by a dint in the spear blade that I'll have to grind out, and the spear nail nick is badly placed. Oddly the clip wobbles in the closed position, but both blades are tight open. Snap ok, will likely improve with some lubrication. Carrying & trying to abuse it to guage the quality. Cost: $10 Oz.

Case 1980 (10 Dot) #6247PEN...When Jerry Halfrich had a chance to play with and sharpen this knife he was quite impressed with the edge taking ability of the carbon steel on this one.
(That's saying something if you know Jerry.)

Great pattern with two useful blades on a single backspring:

Hi,

A knife I've sadly been ignoring lately. A GEC #25 Barlow. Some it got turned into a special occasion knife.

My Daughter bought me the exec whittler for my birthday a couple of months ago, I carry it pretty much every day. A friend gifted me the Imperial frontier stockman last week, it's a good hard work knife that had never been sharpened. The stockman has a hard snap on all three blades and takes a wicked edge. The whittler is a good rhubarb cutter as you can see from the "patina" on the master blade.

Regards

Robin

That Menefee guy does good work.
Picked this on up a month or two ago and finally put it in my pocket this morning.

Got the selfsame Imperial Stockman myself:thumbup:

Prompted me to use it around the garden on a blistering, insect ridden afternoon:eek:

It's a good knife, a little crude and rough but strong and decent:thumbup:

Hi Willgoy
I was doing the same thing with the Imperial yesterday, cutting back some plants in the blistering heat. I find the knife a bit big to pocket carry but it sure is a strong workhorse.

That is one awesome knife.

Thanks, Mark. Charlie was kind enough to send me that one after I had purchased the vintage Winchester (carried on Independence Day) at the Blade Show a couple years back. Gave me a chance to see what Case made in a similar pattern.

I liked it enough that I was fortunate to find one from 1973 (in nice red bone) on that auction site to pair up with it:

Thanks Vince! I love really dark woods and this one is sweet. Perfect matching grains on both sides of the scales too. And yeah, that Menefee guy sure makes nice knives!
