What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Kris congrats on the great news. You & your wife have a lot to look forward to.

Case Slimline Trapper Today:

Fantastic material, that. As good as your picture is-- and it is!-- as you know, that handle material really has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. The translucence, the pale yellow cast. Classy. And glow-in-the-dark, to boot.:D

I'm almost regretting my own choice. ;)

Which reminds me, I have some pictures to take....

Sorry I only just saw this post .

I don't actually know what they are made from .
I suspect they are ivory , but don't know how to confirm it .
They seem to have longitudinal lines running through them almost like a type of grain ?
Here is a previously posted picture , but it shows the scales a bit better .
To my knowledge my father owned this knife for more than sixty years .

Ken

Thanks Ken. It's a very fine knife and proudly carried I'm sure. :)

Two new additions for me, apologies for the terrible photo.

As always, nice steel Kris! Congrats on the good news!

Andi - I love seeing that Dan Burke Barlow of yours.

bonzodog - very nice stag Coke Bottle.

Invoice - terrific photograph. The Lanny's Clip and the Sway Back Jack compliment each other nicely.

toto07 - great photos. Those stilettos are gorgeous!

Kris - normally I'd comment on the Doc Hagen Lanny's Clip or any of a number of the other beautiful items in your photo, but today I just want to say "congratulations" and to wish you and your wife the very best of luck!

pmew - lovely stag on that one, and it's good to see you recovered from the night before!

Gevonovich - I'm smiling again today! :D And I think I've finally figured out what it is about that knife... it reminds me of a beautiful chocolate lab that a high school girl friend of mine had. His name was 'tripod' and as you might've been able to guess, he had lost a leg. Most people looked at that dog and felt sorry for him, but I saw a dog that still had a lot of life in him, still tried to do everything that other dogs do, and most importantly was still loved and adored by his owners.

2BlackDogs - welcome to the forum! That's a beautiful carpenter's whittler you've posted. I've been eyeing that exact knife for a while now but haven't pulled the trigger. Care to share your thoughts on the fit & finish?

bearsquared - great looking new additions.

I'm carrying an E.C. Simmons Keen Kutter today. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.

That sure looks like ivory to me, featuring the 'grain lines' that French Ivory (the synthetic) sought to emulate. Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable can provide confirmation one way or another.

Beautiful knife, no matter what.

Now that's a fine pair!

Also? Yours is not a 'terrible photo' by any means(!).

For you (and for all of us)-- please, don't feel you need to apologize for your pictures. Being able to share these knives at all, most especially through pictures, is the lifeblood of this forum.

I can become frustrated when I can't accurately capture the beauty or features I see directly in front of me, and sometimes am discouraged when presented the coffee-table-book-quality images that others are able to offer.

But, I am also newly appreciative of the sharing, within whatever constraint of time and energy any one of us might be working within.

Some have more talent, more time, more enthusiasm for the actual photography, and we all benefit from their efforts.

We can also learn from how others frame or light their pictures, and gain from that as well. I've learned a lot since I first started taking and posting knife pictures here.

But no matter what, every picture successfully posted takes time and thought, and is a great boon.

Thank you.

Thanks, Stephen!! Monopod it is! Great story and I knew a sheep dog like that and oh what a magnificent dog it was. Its great to know you can "see the beauty" too, my friend. Off to work ...have a great day!!

Schatt & Morgan never let me down. If you own a Queen, they're just a little higher quality. My father turned me on to them a while ago

Kris congrats on the great news. You & your wife have a lot to look forward to.
