What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I like it very much. Had it a little over 4 years now I think. Total thickness is about 5mm or 0.2". The scales are about the thickness of a penny.

The blade shape is generally quite useful with a fine point for picking splinters or close detail cuts. The VG10 takes a really nice edge. Great for a backup knife that you can carry everyday and won't even know it's in your pocket. Given the quality of materials and construction it was a great value for money as well.

Thanks for the info, this is moving toward the top of my list now.

Bill, what is the fixed blade in this pic? It is very nice looking.

Beautiful Northfield Ron! :thumbup::)

Carrying my Wife's knife today;) Mark, aka Markesharp fixed and old German made Barlow (to be posted in another forum) for me and when he mailed it back he included this BEAUTIFUL Ulster he re-worked for my wife Nanc:thumbup:

Now Nanc is NOT a knife person but she absolutely loves this Ulster and the first thing she said was "it's the color of my Birthstone" Ya done good Brother;) No play at all in this great old Barlow:cool:

Wonderful Ulster Nanc - Paul - tell her that her knife makes me jealous - the first time I have ever said that on this forum!:D:D

Don't let Paul have it Nanc - even if he whines - just show it to him every now and then. :D:D:D

That Mark is a generous young/(not really too young, but, younger than me) man - I hope he gets over his bug soon - poor Marko is feeling sickly today. :o:)

Sweet work Marko!

Happy New Year Everyone! its been a while... between the holidays and travel and beign away from the computer I've barely had a chance to check in lately. Had these two on me today:

Sweet work Marko!

Our brother is ill and I am with Primble in wishing you well Mark:thumbup:

I laughed at this... "Paul - tell her that her knife makes me jealous - the first time I have ever said that on this forum!:D:D" :p

Primble my friend, both you and young Marko are good souls and both with generous hearts, I am blessed to call you both friends:thumbup: and I will pass along your knife envy to Nanc:D

After much thought and consideration, I have decided to sharpen this knife (for the first time since it left Walden!), use it, carry it, and enjoy it.

In another thread, someone was asking about whether or not it is crazy to buy a custom knife and use it as an EDC. I found myself on the same side of the argument as most of the responses. That's what they were made for! I would have no problem carrying and using an expensive custom (if I could afford one).

Granted, this is not a custom knife and was made in great numbers to be used and abused by the average hard-working man.

Now, I haven't personally examined many of the latest high-quality production knives out there (GEC, et al), but, the quality of this one, made probably in the 50's I reckon, is just as good as any of them. I also reckon it cost me about one-forth of what a new comparable-quality knife would have cost.

I have a couple of knives handed down from my grandfather and my dad and they show many years of good honest use. That means more to me than if they had kept a new one to give me. So, if I intend on passing any of these down to my kids, I feel they would cherish the ones I USED more than a collection of safe queens.

That being said, after putting a nice sharp edge on the big blade, it instantly feels more comfortable in my hand - ready to serve! Kinda like getting that first scratch in the bed of a new pickup truck. Now you can actually use it!

Life is good.

I was digging around in the bottom of my desk drawer and came across this little Gerber 250A in checkered green kraton rubber and it went right to the pocket. Finding the knife there was an accident of sorts because I wasn't looking for it. The picture of it below took a little intense scratching around to come up with.

That is a great looking little Kabar there! Lots of honest use and still looking solid as a rock!
Thank you sir. I love that little Kabar.
This morning I'm slipping this Camillus #69 in my pocket before going downstairs.

Trying something a bit different (for me), carrying a small fixed blade in a pocket sheath. Bark River City Knife with a Farmer.

Todays carry were both bonus items from dealings with two outstanding members here,

Thank You Primble, for this sweet Tiny Toothpick, the red elder covers are beautiful, I am afraid to let my wife see this one, pretty sure a claim will be laid on it for her collection ;)

Thanks again, Andi, This ROBT KLAAS is a great knife, solid as a rock, and thin enough to pocket comfortably, it feels just perfect in hand. :)

You are welcome Duane - I would have no problem with you paying it forward to your wife.:eek::D

Andi - that ROBT KLASS is a real beauty and it surely went to a deserving member.:thumbup::thumbup::)
