What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

My good friend, Glenn Brackett, who is one of the top bamboo fly rod makers in the world, surprised me today with this 4 sided bamboo 4/5 weight made just for me, stunned I was and still am. The bamboo comes from a very specific region in China, their is actually a PBS special about the bamboo and Glenn himself, for those with interest. Here it is along side my carry today, F. Hartkopf lock back in Thuya burl and 330 layer Markus Balbach carbon damascus.

That fly rod is something special, Kris. Your lock back makes a fine companion. I'll be out on the trout stream tomorrow for the first time this season.

Thanks Gary, have a good go at it tomorrow. I am looking forward to fishing the Big Hole river soon, but probably not till June for me.

Nice rod Kris. Nothing casts like good cane. I ordered a few Winstons when they were in Twin Bridges, but they were glass.

Thanks for allowing me to bare my soul, it just feels good among friends. We will truly celebrate Lylas life this Friday as the memories of her brings a smile to the faces of all of those that knew her.

I carried my memory Barlow today as it just seemed right…
...

...Sarah, Phil and Rachael...Thank you for carrying your Ebony TC, I will feel your kinship tomorrow as I'll have mine with me again as well.
...

Very sorry for your loss Paul. Hold those memories close. I'll be carrying the same knife in solidarity.

My condolences Paul to you and your family in your time of loss. I enjoy your many posts here, so through a show of solidarity and mourning I will be wearing black today. (I don't own a TC)
...

...Carrying this in support of Paul, Nanc and family.

Paul, my sincerest sympathy to Nancy, you, and all your family over your recent loss.
I'm also very touched by the support folks here are giving you, and especially admire the idea of carrying the same kind of knife you are at this sad time. I don't have a TC or an ebony knife, but my very first knife at least has black plastic handles and has many fond family-related memories for me, so I think it will be appropriate to carry for the rest of this week:

A gift from Paul, as I remember. Very appropriate carry "in honor of" knife Gevo. ...

I, along with many others I'll bet, can also carry a gift from Paul as an "in honor of" knife (although I carry it every day anyway):

Thanks for your touching tribute to both your wife and your mother-in-law, Paul. Here's a final thought that I noticed, and stole without permission, from dispatch184's signature; that I saw this immediately after seeing your news seems more than coincidental to me:

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.

You and your family are in my prayers as you go through this tough time.

Everybody...you are all AMAZING!!! I promise I will reply on a more personal level once things slow down here. Please know that both Nanc and I are simply awestruck with your kind and compassionate replies.

Nanc is a whirlwind of activity, sorting through Rubbermaid tubs of old and current pictures preparing for the funeral. The Pastor was up this evening finishing up the last details for the service. PLEASE know that Nanc is blown away at the compassion shown here. She understands the family atmosphere here and hung on every word of every response.

The tribute carries in honor of Lyla touched her deeply as tears welled up in her eyes. In additional to posts here, PM's and emails were sent. I promise to address those as well...Thank you Duncan, Jake and Pete. Pete my friend, "The body is the suitcase for the soul" translated perfectly via email:thumbup: Nanc ADORED the pictures of your girls and brought a beautiful and welcome smile to her face.

So, once more everyone, Nanc and I are so very appreciative to you all. The Ebony TC will ride rfp through Lyla's funeral this Friday.

God bless you all:)

My condolences to you and your family for your loss, Paul. The response you have gotten just goes to show how much you mean to the folks here in the Traditional Forum.

Grabbed this BSA Camillus today.

Paul, as the new guy here I am amazed by the support you have on here. Definitely a bunch of good people and you must be at the top of that list. Glad to be in good company and sorry for your loss.

This for me tonight

I've been in 'no knife' zones all day (airports and airplanes), and so am not carrying anything aside from a small TSA approved Leatherman (without a blade). I've enjoyed checking out what everyone else is carrying today though. I won't get a chance to check in at all tomorrow, so just thought I'd take a moment to wish you all well. :)
Safe travels to you Stephen...

I fee your pain far too often.

Kris - I know I don't need to tell you that "special" would be an understatement where that beautiful rod is concerned. What a fantastic gift. Can I ask what the length is?

Lovely Erickson JB

A great-looking old soldier
