Awesome results, Primble! That looks great!
Gevo, Great pic!

Just went to a Flea Market where I found a guy with a knife roll full of Case knives. He even had some from the 1920s in good shape. He wanted a pretty penny for those, but I snagged myself a Stockman. He said it was 1981.

Can you guys help me out? What kind of steel is used on this guy? It's in immaculate condition. Will it patina, or is it stainless?
It has 9 dots.
Thanks

That is a 1981 Stockman. Pattern 63032 and it has CV steel. Yes it will develop a beautiful patina or it will also rust.
Keep a light coat of mineral oil on the blades and in the joints and you will be good to go.:)

Thanks! I'm gonna have to patina it or something. It looks like the old patina was sanded off. :( But at least that used light sandpaper so it's all uniformly light scratches.

A Case 63032 CV in Chestnut bone. Great combination of blade shapes and at 3 5/8", my favorite length.

WAIT A MINUTE! ! WHAT!! I had the date wrong! I might just make it after all!
I'm headed out to Kansas City and Lawrence today. Anyone know of some good knife related stuff that might take away the sting of missing the G.E.C. rendezvous today?

Well buddy, you have a week to figure that out. I got faith you'll find the right knife to carry next weekend.[/QUOTE]

Better yet, he has a week to figure out how to make it to the Rendezvous after all.

-- In the meantime, the above #38 whittler in ebony is a great knife for any occasion, with the potential to ameliorate regrets, provide solace, etc.

I shall carry my own Grinling today in a show of solidarity...
