Jack,

Out of curiosity, do you know Chris Townsend?

I got to know Chris back in the 90s as we both frequented rec.backcountry. This was back in the day, long before the long September of the post-AOL world, usenet spam bots and Mike Vandeman. Things go full circle... My daughter, now in college, is in an outdoor leadership program and she's getting the latest version of Chris's great handbook.

Absolutely Pete, or rather I did 20 years ago, when we were both working for the same publishing house (he did the gear for The Great Outdoors, me for Climber & Hillwalker). A very nice chap who really knows his stuff too :)

Yes it is-and expertly sharpened by Mr. Rob Bixby of ApostleP knife sharpening service (on YouTube)

I started carrying a Buck Cadet to work every day back around 1975 and still do today. When I am not at work I generally carry a Benchmade Mini Girptilian but next week I should be receiving a Buck Vantage Pro small and a Boker titanium mini Kwaiken so I will have a couple more options then.

Thanks to Gev/Jack and Dadpool for the comments on my Seahorse whittler.

This is what I carried today. Grohmann in stag.

Everyone's pictures are so great! I'd make more comments on all of them every day but it would take me hours to do so.

My Forum knife arrived today. WOW!!! Light is fading so I will post pictures tomorrow.

Yes indeed! :D Instead I used to give everything away - even to the postman! :D I still have a small bedroom crammed with 'stuff'! :D
Thank you my friend
You should have 'Never Knowingly Underknifed' as your strapline! :D

:eek::eek::thumbup::thumbup::D:D:D

Liking this one more and more after the satin finish went on.

You did a very nice job on it too ! ;):thumbup::D If you ever want the shiny back, use 2000 grit and then Flitz and you are back to like new. ;):)

Satin finish is the way forward:)

Well that's just real cool. Who would've thought that 20 years later in another forum the circle of acquaintance would be so small. Chris was and is very insightful.

BTW, Stitch's name is Pete. My name is Dave. I need to start signing my posts!!

Indeed, it's a small world. The thing with a lot of equipment reviewers, many of them are either bought or seduced by big companies, are part-timers who don't really get a chance to test the gear they're supposed to be reviewing, don't have enough experience to give a worthwhile opinion, or are just plain clueless. Chris has been doing his job a long-time, it's a full-time job for him, and he has both intelligence and integrity. In my opinion, he's certainly the best outdoor gear reviewer working in the UK, and arguably, he has been for the best part of 40 years. He's not into knives, and he'll sacrifice just about everything for a light pack, but his opinions are always worth listening to I think.

Please accept my humble apologies Dave, I've got to the stage in life where I'm starting to mix up the names of my own kids! :o :D

Today I am carrying the Case 6344 SS Medium Stockman:

Beautiful knives! The one with the clip blade is incredible! A sawcut bone TC Barlow like those (although I think it was one with the spear point) was what led me to discover GEC and the porch! I saw a picture of it somewhere online and fell in love. Bit of a grail knife for me now. Someday... someday. :D

Brett, do you have a picture that shows the thickness difference between the pioneer and farmer?
Dave

Hi Dave! Sorry, I don't have a comparison photo of what you're looking for. If I find some time soon, I'll try to snap a pic or two for ya. In the meantime, the Farmer is roughly a scale thicker than the Pioneer, if that helps any. :)

Carrying this one today:
