What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I'be carrying the La Thiers for the past few days.

How does this happen? An hour or two of shoveling snow each day this week, a couple of projects at work, and all of a sudden I'm 5 days and 10+ pages behind in this thread!!:( As I did a speed scroll, I enjoyed everyone's contributions, but I tried to limit my upcoming comments to an average of one post per page. That was actually kind of interesting for me, having a "beauty contest" for each page to see which post most grabbed my attention. :D

My son in law gifted me this S&M Winterbottom Barlow in 1095 steel. I'm actually very pleased with the quality on this one. I was skeptical when it arrived based on some past experiences with Queen and S&M, but this is a good one. Not perfect, but the little things I found are insignificant.

...
Congrats, Bob; glad you got one you like! And I was ecstatic last weekend as I jumped from thread to thread to see that you had several posts here and there; glad you had a couple of better days, and I hope and pray you'll have even more and even better! :)

This gift from Duncan, a GEC #16 "Little Indian Girl" Canoe Pattern. I have a couple of vintage 1970 red bone CASE Canoe's which I like but this carries much nicer to me:cool:

Thank you Duncan, I love this knife. Duncan's generosity extends beyond this even as I was notified by a GEC dealer that I had credit waiting for me towards another knife purchase:o Duncan's generosity is LEGENDARY:thumbup:

Paul, congrats on that beautiful canoe; well done, Duncan!!:cool: I've been looking at GEC canoes, and had decided that if I get one it would be the one with ebony covers, but your appealing photos of that rust red jigged bone may make me reconsider!

...
I had to spend most of the day in somewhat dressier attire that normal. This seemed very appropriate! ;):D

Your TC is VERY elegant and distinguished, as I'm sure you were as well in your "dressier attire". :D

...Well, GT, if I had to judge by how many I've acquired since starting to collect, I would have to say that it is among my favorites. The photo (inadvertantly) shows the three patterns I collect and enjoy most, as a matter of fact: Barlows, trappers and toothpicks. Since I first came across the breadth and variations to the toothpick world I think I've really enjoyed collecting them up to and including the old fishermen knives that companies like Imperial and Ka-bar seemed lousy with every year.
...
Which model SAK is the one with the clip and paracord, out of curiosity? I think it's carrying a tool I've wanted on an SAK, and honestly the Cybertool Lite isn't so "lite" in sheath or pocket, which is why it didn't ride with me today (or most weekend days).
...

Camillus TL-29 linesman's knife - for everything else :D
TB, I like the Imperial toothpicks, but am not really drawn to the ones with the fish scaler blade; I really like the clip/pen toothpick combo though.
The SAK you referenced is a Minichamp. Mine has the celidor covers, but they're also available in Alox.
Great-looking Camillus electrician!!

The rain has turned to snow and a cold wind blowing stoutly. A pair of ole Catts in my pockets today:

Amazing knives, Primble! I've heard that a couple of cats in your pockets can keep you warm, but I don't think I could stand the howling. :p

FBC, that is such a handsome old Barlow!

I've owned this for 30+ years and I've carried it maybe half a dozen times, it's a nice pattern I'm gonna give it another chance.

Ted, I think that's an outstanding, well-kept knife; lovely canoe!!

...
Carrying a Vic Popular and a Richards today. The Richards belonged to my uncle and was gifted to me by my aunt after he passed away. It means a lot to me.

Ken K.
Thanks for showing us a "family knife", Ken. That Popular is very nice, too; you don't see those everyday!

I spent half the day in the ER with a kidney stone yesterday. A lot of pain. Hoping to scare it today by carrying my doctor's knives and just maybe it will pass. :o

I've never had kidney stones, Primble, but I don't know of anyone who enjoyed the experience; I hope the worst is over for you now! I'm impressed that you have knives appropriate to whatever Life throws at you!! :D

Thanks Dan! It is zebra wood (or zebrawood?), my first experience with it. I really like it, the small open pores give it almost a textured feel. Today with my beer scout:

Splendid pair, gorgeous sheath, and phenomenal photo, Tom!

...
Primble - Hope everything comes out alright!!! ;):eek::D That Jack "Ain't no little knife!" :D
I will have to say thats the 1st time I have ever saw a Pediatricians Knife before!:eek::rolleyes:;):D
Thought you might could use a good laugh buddy!;) It was a Tip Top kind of day for me :)

:D:D Laughter is the best medicine, according to the Readers Digests we had when I was a kid!
That Tip Top Barlow is terrific, Ron!

Very interesting pair, Jack! I liked your new canoe the first time you posted it, but I think my affection for it grows each time it reappears!

Knot withstanding....Knots Landing....:barf: :D Really pleased with this one, hoping to snap a shot of it with its counterpart from 2014, also a fantastic example. I feel very fortunate:thumbup:

Glorious grain, Will!

Had this for a while but it's never seen any pocket time. I figured that it would be a decent choice for "Wooden Wednesday" as well a a few drinks with friends after work. Viva l'italia!

...
Nice Italian beer scout, btmac!!

3 days in a row for this zebrawood City Knife, might be a record for me :D.

Congrats, on the newest City Knife, Tom; it seems to go well with everything! :D (I probably shouldn't admit this in public, but I was actually talking to a fixed blade maker at the gun and knife show last Saturday - blasphemy for me!:o)

...Today's trio of traditionals...

And a tidy trio it is, TB!

A couple of the knives I'm carrying this week are ones I picked up at a gun and knife show last weekend.

GT I thank you! You know, if your turn your back for a bit all manner of things happen, but at least with this thread you can rely on it to go roaring on, not like the stove if you leave it unattended :mad:

I hope Primble has revived from that kidney-stone episode, horribly painful:barf:

Regards, Will

It's good to see all of those knives again GT, and in at least one case, there was one I missed the first time round

Thanks GT, I like that Electrician's Knife

Two knives today with a story. My son (knowing my interests) was focused on getting me a knife on a recent trip to Israel. It was a great trip for him as his group visited one Biblical site after another. He even saved someone in his group from drowning in the Mediterranean. He brought back the black Vic from the trip for me. Several weeks later the person who he saved gave him the multi-colored knife from a subsequent trip to Turkey (knowing that my son was looking for knives for me).

Haha indeed Ron I had initially only asked for a couple photos in hand and size comparisons. It's in the pocket again today

The sawcut on that Camillus is top notch. Matches one that was shown by Jeff/JPrime

Thanks Tim.:)

Very nice gents

I do hope Primble is OK.

Yes, greaat knives gents! And I to hope Mr. Primble is doing well! Saying a prayer for ya brother

Jack and Gev - The Beaver and I thank you for the compliments :)

I hope that kidney stone passes like a well oiled joint...smooth and easy.

That's a fine pair you're packin'. I always enjoy your photos.

Thank you ! :thumbup::)

I'm sure those doctor's knives will pulverize those stones with those flat bottoms. They're a real bear to pass. Rest well~

Great pics of the Dr knives Primble, they should scare the stones into vacating. Good luck.

I too wish you well, Primble!! Those two should crush them to dust;)

Thanks Primble :) Ouch! That's rotten :( Hope those two beautiful knives work their magic

I appreciate the well wishes guys !:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::)

Pediatrician's knife !!! :eek::eek::grumpy::D:D:D Nice Tip-Topper !!! :thumbup::)

 I hope you are feeling better today and those stones are behaving with that doctor's steel nearby. The scales on that baby doc are phenomenal!

The bottom two are obvious, the top is a Primble half-Congress I've had for a while and wish I knew more about (though I'm inclined to think Camillus circa 1960s).

Thank you and that is a nice assortment of oldies you have shown !:)

I love that background Mr. Jack !:thumbup::)

Hope you're feeling better today Primble!

Primble - Get Well Soon my friend!:D

I hope Primble has revived from that kidney-stone episode, horribly painful:barf:

Thank all of you for the well wishes and the humor. I needed a smile. I am very very very very happy to report that I passed the stone late this afternoon and am feeling much better, although the powerful pain medicine wrecked my stomach. I never had one before and hope that I (again) nor you guys ever have that experience. :o You guys (and your knives :D) are the best !:thumbup::) Thank you, once again !

Primble, I'm just now seeing where you had a kidney stone, and man I'm hating that for you. I've had them and wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Glad you passed it my friend. I know the pain meds can jack you up a bit, but just keep drinking fluids (water and cranberry juice) and you'll bounce back in no time. We've got to keep you healthy since you post the finest pictures on the forum.

Canal Street Coppersmith Barlow and my Maratac flashlight, a gift from Paul.

Fine looking knife and light, they compliment one another !

Glad that all went well Rob!!
