Lovely bone Ron

For the 3rd time this week it has been 70's Case Red Bone;) I must be trying to relive my youth!:eek::D

Love it!

SadSappySucker

The micarta is so at home on those sodbusters. I need one...

Grabbed a Cuban for the weekend.

Ive got a rams horn cuban as well - great color on yours!

Heeeerrrre's Johnny!

I really like the chess piece shields - great looking knife.

Snowed in with snow coming down right now at 2 inches per hour. Decided on my Redbone Stockman and the Cattaraugus 22256 Jack. The main on the Catt is a bit more used than I usually buy, but, it is still a nice solid and snappy old knife:

Guess I better get out and start shoveling. :o

Hey - at least yours is snow and not ice like it is here. The trees are starting to sag...

Tools of the trade..... :)

Love the sunfish and whalers!

Today I just got my first full congress. Found this gem new retail online even though its from 2009! 4 blades, no rubbing, all have half stops, stain finish, long pull, northfield shield, I really love it!

Weather permitting, I will be heading out early tomorrow morning for a trip to York. I’m just hoping the town has dried out a bit since earlier in the month. I often have lunch at the place on the left in the photo above, in an area which is not usually prone to flooding. Prior to it being a pub and restaurant, the 17th century building was Ellerker’s rope and twine merchants, and both the exterior and interior of the building reflect this history. Ellerker’s infamously made the hangman’s nooses for York prison, where the legendary highwayman Dick Turpin is among the executed, which led to the phrase, “For me there is no hope – was Ellerker’s made this rope.” You can probably guess which knife I’ll have with me! Have a great weekend everyone

Wow..first the flooding picture... holy smokes... and the knife shot... incredible picture! Well Done!

Thanks Drew, the top pic isn't mine though, just an image from the internet. I wasn't until I was looking just now that I realised that part of York was so badly affected, the whole of the ancient city centre must have been under water!

Just arrived from Brad (Coolio) and I love it. I have long admired these but being a single blade type of guy I have held off from pulling the trigger. With CSC closing I was on the brink of grabbing one anyway from a dealer when I happened to check the exchange and saw this! The mod from Mark is perfect. This knife was obviously loved and cared for and I am honored to have it :)

That Marigold bone on your SBJ is awesome! I haven't seen one in that color before.
Thank you for the compliment sir. :)
NYKC Barlow

 What a Barlow! No wonder you were inspired to create such a custom looker!

Test driving the Nieto Climber again. Day one was a complete success, thus begins day II:

Heck, that Boker is a great companion for it. Very bold coloring, I really like it!

Nice selection today, Tsar. I especially like that Queen Barlow. Love those asymmetrical bolsters on the older Queens.

I've got my eye on a few with bone scales to supplement my wood and Delrin Queens. Now I just need to invent a perpetual money machine to finance it all. :p

My favorite is the sunfish!

You know, I bought that one as a carry knife because I have a '73 with the same scales in dead mint that will probably never see the inside of a pocket. The more I carry the pictured one, however, the more I appreciate its character, the texture of its scales, the slight resistance of the "pen" blade (those things are basically just small spears :D). Heck, even the little piece that flaked off who knows how many years ago gives the knife character. I like the sunfish pattern, but I really like carrying that Case.

Thanks, both me and Popeye are thrilled! :D
My best compass find to date, by far, was this pre-1875 F.Barker & Son model. I bought it 'blind' from a truly miserable market trader, so I was very pleased to find out it was worth a deal more than I paid for it! :D
Couple of links I found helpful in dating it:
http://trademarklondon.com/The-Compass/index.html
http://www.compassmuseum.com/

That is an outstanding compass, and some great information as always!

This is my first post in the traditionals forum. I have enjoyed lurking around for a couple of months, I think it's about time I start contributing. I have slowly been drawn more and more to traditionals, and I think now I am completely won over. I still enjoy tactical folders, but now I appreciate traditionals equally. I think the knife I am carrying today is the perfect one to mark such an occasion!

Now that's an introduction! Lovely carry, and welcome to the porch! :)

TsarBomba thanks and you're right about Primble. How does he do it?
Primble thanks again.
Today I went with a J. Lloyd in stag and a Vic Economy Version Recruit.

Incredibly stag, Ken. I'm not really sure how Primble does what he does, maybe he has some otherworldly connection to those Kentucky knife spirits I've heard about. :D

Keen Kutter sort of day here in Ohio. Overcast but no snow. Stay safe everyone affected by WinterStorm Jonas.

Stay safe and warm, even though I imagine that color and jigging pattern are so hot that Kutter must keep you nice and toasty just sitting in a pocket. :p

Snowed in with snow coming down right now at 2 inches per hour. Decided on my Redbone Stockman and the Cattaraugus 22256 Jack. The main on the Catt is a bit more used than I usually buy, but, it is still a nice solid and snappy old knife:

That Catt has plenty of life left. You should see the pen blade on the Remington swell-end I picked up recently. I could probably mend clothing with it. :D

My new Winchester 2935 for today. The pinned shield was not inletted evenly, so I had to clean up the old glue, which had turned green with age, and then re-peen the pin, and buff the shield smooth and flat on the polishing lathe. She looks sharp, now.

Heck of a job. That Winnie is about the classiest one I've seen yet!

For the 3rd time this week it has been 70's Case Red Bone;) I must be trying to relive my youth!:eek::D

 That red bone pops like very few examples I've ever seen, outstanding!

Today I'm carrying my Ulster official boy scouts knife.

I plan on taking one of the scouts from my "fix'em up, dummy" box and giving it some new life soon. Assuming I can stop myself from taking a grinder to the Ulster Barlow I received on the cheap, only to discover uneven bone scales and the previous owner's roughhousing with the tip of the master sheepsfoot - it was bent so badly that simply brushing it with a fingertip was enough to take it right off. The only good thing about it is it gives me an opportunity to turn it into a coping blade, or at least a more severely-angled sheepsfoot, without ruining a top-drawer knife. Plus it'll still look good in pictures with the smooth bone, and frankly my paws are big enough to avoid noticing uneven scales. :D

I chose a sheepy Barlow from Sheffield and my CFK in green micarta today to supplement Mac, the big stockman that seems to be taking up permanent residence in my left hip pocket. I can't help but think about Jack's wonderful stories every time I carry a British I-XL, thanks to the porch. :D

All your rope knife shots have been top notch, Jack. I like the Popeye theme, too. :)

After two days of not being to get my daily carries up here (@#$%^&&** Photobucket), I finally got yesterday's carry up a day late.

Thank you sir, I will! :D

Sisters from other misters.

Very nice sisters ! :thumbup::D

Heeeerrrre's Johnny!

Very pretty knife Mark - hope you are not getting dumped on as bad as we are here in Central Kentucky !:)

Singing choices Mr P. Stay warm and safe

Thank you good sir !:D

Primble - That's a fine looking 6318 Tested XX Razor Edge. You didn't slip that out of my roll did you?:eek::D:D

I think the same when you get out your red bone Cases and your copycattin' Indian head penny !:eek:;):D:D:D That is a wonderful trapper Ron ! ( I got a little 1972 mini Copperhead in fine redbone in the mail today)

Well it looks like we are both locked inside, but, yes I will take all of this snow over ice ! Your Northfield was a fabulous find - very beautiful and a fine fine shield !:)

Lovely bone Ron

Thank you Jack! :) Hope you have a great trip to York and a good weekend. :D

Thank you Primble! I saw you snag that mini off the exchange, nice knife. I got me a nice 1974 Redbone 06247 Pen yesterday. Beautiful bone and full, never sharpened blades. Some previous owner didn't store it correctly so got some pitting marks on the blades. A dandy user. Almost forgot, got another one coming next week, 1972 Redbone 06247 Pen, appears almost mint. Stay warm and dry buddy!:D:rolleyes:

You might wanna check flights before heading out Philly airport shut down tomorrow and I believe Newark, JFK and LaGuardia are also. I've been stuck at Heathrow for a few days because of bad weathers on the other (my side) of the pond. the airport looked like Woodstock in the 60s, empty booze bottles everywhere, people sleepin' everywhere, it was surreal.

What a beautiful image! How cool, to see those particular shield varieties together.

However, if this truly presents what you are "Totin' today," I hope you have a strong back and stronger suspenders. Also, please try to stay away from water; I don't like your chances of re-emerging should you fall in.

:D

But again, what a lovely array of big 'uns, presented well.

pertinux - Thank you! That gave me a honest chuckle, haha :). I agree with everything aforementioned .

You are a busy man my friend ! It all sounds quite delicious ! :D

Gary - Thank you my fiend! That Cudeman looks like a great knife and could tackle many chores inside or outside the house.
Thanks, Mark. :) I don't remember exactly what that Cudeman blade shape is called (solsona?), but I'm quite fond of it. I hope that's a typo in your post, and not a "Freudian slip" indicating what you think of me!!:D

...
If you want to hone your sharpening skills (no pun intended :P) without risking your EDC linesman knife, I can probably scare up an honest-to-goodness Camillus (may not be badged Camillus proper but it will have been manufactured there) for you to practice on. PM me if you'd like.
...
Your Camillus might be a distant relation to my little Boker and his big Pal.

...
Tsar, thanks for your kind offer, but I hope I have enough "practice blades" that I can "hone my sharpening skills." ;)
Your Boker/Pal pair are top-notch!

:) Thanks pal, I shall post some in the lounge so as to keep this thread pure :D
Thanks, Paul; saw the Rory photos in the lounge. :)

...These two again today:

shan't blow away in the wind
That's the spirit, Sarah! If you have the pocket space, you might as well slide a pocket knife in there!
And your last line suggests something I should bring up with my insurance agent; I should probably be getting some kind of discount because the dozen knives I carry daily keep me well-grounded. :D

You are correct sir! I finally caught some blue ALOX, seems like I have been after it forever. I really like the Cudeman, and I forgot to post the other day: the stag Joker is a stunner .

My new blue again today:

Thanks, Tom; the Joker I'm carrying this week is actually bull horn, but there's a very similar model available in stag (Spanish "ciervo"?) that I hope my daughter in Spain can snag for me someday. Your blue Pioneer is sweet, and that other new blue Alox (Farmer, I think) is also electric!

Thanks GT, the TL-29 is a 1/4" longer ...
Here's me today, thanks to Charlie C :) Splice the main brace! :D

Thanks for the data, Jack. Congrats on your splendiferous new rope knife!

Hubba, Hubba!! :eek::thumbup:

Some really great knives today! I love the Catt, the Peanut, the 85, the NYKC Barlow, the Case's, etc! I got this one yesterday...I've been looking for a stag custom and I had to have this one by Bret...

Congrats, Jake; man, you continue to bark with the big dogs!

This one today for Bob - BigBiscuit! Thinking of you my friend, Stay Strong! (Update in the Lounge and BigBiscuit thread!)

Thanks for the update, Ron, even if it doesn't seem to be positive news.

And my new peanut:

Congrats on the new chestnut bone peanut, zolthar; prettiest peanut on the planet!!

Yikes, your Presidential looks like it's gotten itself in a dangerous predicament! I hope it came out OK. ;)

Todays. Have had the SAK since desert storm, been a good knife.

No doubt that nostalgia is a major component in why I'm here! :o Your redbone Cases are very striking, Ron!

Grabbed a Cuban for the weekend.

Ram53open_zpsd6d36cd1.jpg~original
Ravishing ram's horn, and I'm a sucker for equal end patterns, but I still am trying to get used to stockman blades in anything other than a serpentine frame. Gorgeous knife, Jeff!

...Today I just got my first full congress. Found this gem new retail online even though its from 2009! 4 blades, no rubbing, all have half stops, stain finish, long pull, northfield shield, I really love it!

That one's remarkable, Dean! Sorry you and so many others (except Cory :p) are having the Photobucket frustrations lately. :(

This hignokami is always on my desk at work.

And I've carried this Sodbuster Jr every day since I won it in a BigBiscuit GAW a year ago to remind me to pray for his health, his family, his medical team, etc. Bob, you're an inspiration to me, and probably many others here on The Porch!
