What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Very complimentary and good looking pair Jack.

+1 and liked the old tools !:)

Thanks Ron. Dressy indeed.

My dressy knife for the day.

Dressy indeed is that TC as well Bob !:thumbup::thumbup::D

These two for the coming week

Nice Bark River Mike. :thumbup::)

This one today

Unusual and clean looking Gary ! How is the quality ?:thumbup::)

Wow a knife with some real character! Beautiful Barlow!

:thumbup::)

Great to see such wonderful knives being carried and that there are still folks on here I know. Hope you all are having a great weekend.

Nice pair and good to hear from you Brett !:)

IMG_5993_zpsaxsgrzf3.jpg

That is one groovy knife Phil !:D

Jake
- does that ole lizard skin just look like lizard skin or does it feel like lizard skin ?:confused::)

Thanks Primble. Great to see your collection again. Always a photographic treat

Brett - It is great to see you here today my friend. We have been missing you on the porch. Hope alll is well with your family. That wonderful Smooth Ivory Bone gift from Will is looking super good. What a great patina that thing is sporting.

Thanks Ron. I hope you and yours are good as well my friend. Those two knives mean a ton to me.

Thanks, Rob, beautiful old bone on the Barlow. And Brett, that's a wonderful patina on the #73!

Thanks Jeff, appeciate that buddy.

Rob, it has more of a textured feel than other micarta knives that I have actually. Not sure if it's due to the cut of the micarta or the level of finishing that Todd did on it. I have a brown canvas knife from him that is much smoother feeling. Guess it's just the soul of the Lizard!

My version of a sway back. All steel pins, liners and bolsters with long pull warncliff blade

Stag and Ironwood today

It wasn't until that last photo that I saw the curve in the saber grind on that Wharnie blade. That is one fine knife! Fantastic work!

Ha! In truth I have a weakness for all scouts, and seem to be able to find something to like about each one ;). Your pic made me hungry

It was an excellent lunch, though there weren't any outdoor seats that had decent lighting (half the reason I selected that cafe). I was a little disappointed. :o

Thanks Tsar, indeed. That spey should make a fine slicer though :)

I wonder if that Opinel might have felt preparing a PB&J was a task beneath its rich tradition and history. :D

Left the Peanut, was a great carry and for some it's ideal, but I wanted to give this Case Mini Copperhead a go and got this today, very nice folder, still watch pocket carry size;
Liking this shield too

Ever since I learned of them I've wanted one of those Case Wharnie mini-copperheads. I think the right bone could make it a notable pair with a nice seahorse whittler. Great pics of yours!

For Stag Saturday I will be totin' my 76 Outlaw Gunstock Jack. Have a great weekend! :D

That's some nice stag, sir! Is it matched well with the pile side?

So proud of my dye job. The russlock was slightly lighter than the slimline. I used some combination. Of these
washed with soap, brought knife covered with water to a simmer, added dye, simmered 30 min. Kept monitoring, shut heat off, and let sit for 15 min. The rinsed and oiled.
So these will be o. My side today. Though the slimline might be darker tonight.

Looks like a game effort at rediscovering that old Case red bone. You should offer to consult with their factory. :D

Already mid afternoon here :) I've had these two with me today, the Harrison Fisher Crown Penknife I was carrying yesterday, and a Robeson HJ gifted to me by Duncan a couple of years back :)

Looks like you're favoring that pen pretty strongly. :p

Haven't carried this guy for some time. Rotating it back in.
Taking the 22 along for company

Marvelous grain on that 22. Those King Ranch-etched Cases have been going for some silly prices as of late. Especially since most (all?) of them were in that classic yeller synthetic. You'd think they were dressed in stag... :o

These two from Tony Bose are with me on this morning,
Zulu fixed in ATS 34 and handled by Rick Menefee in Rick's signature green micarta with orange liners, along with a Texas jack, #2, vintage Remington bone and ATS 34. Sheath by the talented Larry Parsons

Enjoying a day with my family, these two are with me
damascus and birch bark puukko by Pasi Hurttila along with a Texas jack from Tony Bose

Living u to your username as always! :D That Texas jack looks pretty fantastic.

In honor of the beautiful canine Buddy, I decided to carry these two knives - in memory of.
...
(both knives previously came to me via his kind owner)

A fitting sendoff for Buddy, and another example of why the porch is such a great place!

Thanks for the comments Jack and Tsar. Tsar I've sent you an e-mail.

Thanks, Ken. I think the emails from the site go to an older account I have, and I've already submitted a password reset to the provider which seems to be waiting on a texted number sent to my cell phone. Once I can get that squared away I will be sure to read and respond. :o

Been a few days since scrolling this page. This pic hit home and made me pull out the only knife I have that
my dad actually carried, and gave to me when I was young. Wow, brings back memories. What a great old Western.

That's what makes it your most valuable knife, I imagine. :) My grandfather's old rifle has similar levels of sentimental value to me, and I can't imagine ever parting with it. Thanks for sharing your treasure with us!

Okay...just got in today from Frank's Classics...Queen Classic Cotton Sampler...very nice BG 42 steel, sharp...using Frank's pic...but mine looks as good.

One of the brave folks who buy Queen sight-unseen. I'm glad you were rewarded for your bravery. That's a really cool pattern, but I imagine the specialty factor limits the market for them. I don't think I've seen any Queen cotton samplers on the secondary market at all. My own success rate in that arena with the higher end of the Queen spectrum is about 67% to date, give or take. Going to see if they take me to the cleaners to try and tighten/clean up one of their limited editions in stag, so I can make a proper decision as to which of the three I own becomes a user. :D

Too busy today to give The Porch the attention I'd like to on a weekend; maybe tomorrow? But I did notice that Primble had the same idea I had for this weekend:
I added a couple of knives to my week's carry this morning as reminders of Paul and what he's dealing with right now.

Another great carry in tribute to Paul, his family, and ol' Buddy himself. Really a thoughtful gesture, GT.

That's a cool shield Paul. Pocket dump today.

Absolutely exquisite mammoth on that Charlow!

Thanks! The funny thing is actually, that the mercator has lacquer on the handle so that the handle wont take patina. I was fine with that until one hot summer day the thing just started flaking off. I did some rubbing on it that it would be just plain brass and I like it. Changes color all the time. I think I have to make some sort of "review" of it since I haven't done one in a while.

I will look forward to it. It almost sounds like the best way to make it start taking a patina is to use it as it was designed. They're priced reasonably so I may pick up an extra or two and see what kind of results I get using it as a hard-use knife. I think given enough time and handling that brass handle would start to look amazing.

Thanks Jack. Along with everything else, I'm fighting a cold or flu bug that's really kicking my butt.

I am sure the entirety of the porch is behind you and wishes you well ASAP, Bob! Kick that cold's butt. :D

My dressy knife for the day.

Tuxedo Bob is in the house!

Feel better, Bob, and everyone who is fighting off the winter bugs. Take your vitamin C, and get some sun if you can. :)

Always the Girl Scout, Rachel. Having a Coke and a smile with this carry, I imagine. :p

Heading out for some lunch, and added this 1989 Case Wharncliffe saddlehorn to the LFP.

I really love that color and jigging pattern. Is that the "antique green" jigged bone?

These two for the coming week

Beautiful Barkie, and the texture on that Northwoods is classic.

Jeff - I really like your Robeson ! :thumbup::thumbup::)
I reckon we were on the same page today. I have not carried this old Robeson Barlow in a long time. Nice full blades on it too.

  Don't just tease the blades! ;) :D

I've been carrying the 77 and 71 for quite some time now.
(The 71 is in my back pocket)

Maybe you could convince Earl to pose for a photo on that same sign? :o

This is what I am totin'

Isn't that one of the J. Prime specials? It's a real winner!

Didn't find much time for recreation yesterday, but managed to get some photos of Stag Saturday's carry because I can never really resist any opportunity to show off the pile side of my '80 NKCA gunstock...

Today's carry, on what I've come to know as "Sleepy Sunday". reflected the low-energy vibe of the day with my jigged green challenge knife (on its last day of the week) alongside my oldest Case (and only #24) in old red bone. Again, the pile side, because that's the star of the old jack:

I wonder if that Opinel might have felt preparing a PB&J was a task beneath its rich tradition and history. :D

Haha it's well suited for the job with the blade height ;)

Tim - Thank you for the compliment. That is a great picture of that 25 there. :) I remember how you loved those Vipers early on. ;) I can hardly wait to see what you have going on next!

Thank you, haha I still have a soft spot for wharncliffes and swaybacks. Just can't seem to get the most used out of them.
Haha well it rhymes with Rose ;)

Great to see such wonderful knives being carried and that there are still folks on here I know. Hope you all are having a great weekend.

Glad to see you back Brett. Hope you're well~

Awesome pic!

Thank you very much~ No colour manipulation or editing on this one.

My favourite book alongside a very well enjoyed blade from today

Lovely Robeson Jeff

By coincidence, I was admiring a catologue pic of that knife in an old book I was leafing through! Very nice Mr P

That's nice work :)

Great to see you back, Brett!

UVtYc4u.jpg

+1 to that! :) Great pic :) :D

+1 and liked the old tools !:)

Thank you sir :)

Looks like you're favoring that pen pretty strongly. :p

I like it a lot my friend  Carrying something quite different today though :) Have a good week everyone

Monday morning with no coffee? The week's got to get better from here, right? :)

Just arrived today due to Will's generosity! :)
Two splendid Case. Thanks again! I'll take great care of them. I will keep them on me the week long (and may be more).
This place is really a special place. (Will I hope you don't have too many mooses like this one venturing in your garden!)
