Today is a German day for me. I'm carrying this Carl Schlieper Eye Brand 350 medium stockman and this 2005 Böker 7474 large stockman, both in very nice carbon.

Thanks x 2, Gary. Spear points are a challenge for me to sharpen, so I take my time. I probably need to touch it up.

That is a Buck 310 (manu. in 2000) and it is a 3 spring whittler. That fits into Buck's penchant to have a spring for every blade. It's a nice size at 3".

I like the green on that Farmer! :thumbup: You have ignited a desire in me to get an alox Farmer. I will fight the temptation, but will I win?

If you look real close at my photo, you can see the 310 stamped just below "Buck" on the main blade tang. You got a great price for an out of manufacture Buck. Congrats! Based on your photo, you did great! :thumbup:

Why, you may ask?

Well, its a long story.

About august 11th or so, I agreed to buy this knife from our own, Jake. We had talked and texted over knives a little before then, and I had bought a davison from him already. We reached a price and it was on its way. On august 13th, I found out that my wife and I had an oops. She was pregnant. On august 14th, my house flooded. It was a rough weekend. The knife was scheduled to be delivered on monday the 15th. Well, there was still water on our street (and in my house!). I texted jake on monday and told him what was up. I told him "hey man, youll sea it wasn't delivered. My road is flooded and post office is crazy and can't find anything, in case it ends up back at your place". Jake made the offer to refund my money if I needed it, and refused to take the knife back. He threatened to bring it down here himself and kick my ass if i sent it back. I told him that I didn't need that, but if it came to where i did, i promised to let him know. Well, he did it anyway.

It took 4 months, but I got the house rebuilt, footed the bill myself. When I finally got insurance payment, I reimbursed myself and paid off the loans I made. Jake STILL would not accept payment for the knife. At this time, I was seeking a knife to purchase to celebrate the birth of my baby (now we know its a boy) boy. I searched and searched and obsessed over it. When my daughter was born, I was in a tactical phase (blame my ex wife and her friends) and recieved a microtech the day she was born in the mail. So i have one that stands for her birth to me. I needed the perfect knife for him. Jake made a comment one day when i offered to pay him again (and got another threat of bodily harm if i sent it back) to "keep it for your son". And it hit me. Like a ton of bricks. That knife represents a time in my life that at the beginning was hard. It was the almost doubting the Lords path for me hard. It was hard to trust in his ways and plans. I am 42 and having a baby! I am having to rebuild my families home, and find a place to live! How is this good. This knife was the first gesture that anyone made, the first gift that was given to me because of the flood. It also represents a time of my life of realizing that those hardships and uncertainties led to blessings. Even the flood turned out to be a blessing for my family (but I realize that is not true for everyone, or very few even!). Ethan (my boys name) is a blessings given to me and my new wife in a time of blessings. He gave me a new and wonderful wife, a new house, a new child and even a new position at work that is much less stressful and allows me more time to enjoy my family. This knife represents the beginning of those blessings. This knife is Ethan's, one of my greatest blessings, knives. (Don't worry, Sydney, one of my other greatest blessings, has one also, and I have one that represents the marriage to my wife).

On top of that, I gained a good friend here. Jake and I text regularly, about knives, bikes, cars, women, pretty much all kinds of things. Im thankful for that friendship also. Its hard for me to make friends, but this ones been easy.

So, why do I have to start carrying it now? Well, remember that we found out she's pregnant in august. Its almost time! I want to be carrying it when he is born. His due date is April 12th but scheduled to induce on the 5th if he doesn't bust out before. We ended up at the hospital thursday night last week, we where taking the kids out to dinner and ice cream. I thought I was going to have to birth him in the parking lot of the ice cream shop! She stopped having contractions though. I didn't have the knife on me and that bothered me! So, even though I am enamored by the stag 81 still, I will be carrying this ebony 48 anytime I am going to be leaving home any distance and may not be able to swap to it before going to the hospital. Just to make sure.
