What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I am heading out for a rockfish (striped bass) fishing venture on the Chesapeake Bay (fish all day tomorrow). I will be packing these. Then, on Saturday, muzzleloader deer season opens in the Old Dominion and I will be leaving for a couple days. Will try to post before or after that sojourn.

Two new knives and an old book. I got this book at a book fair in middle school and I've carried it all around from Puerto Viejo beach in Costa Rica to the Andreafsky Wilderness in Alaska. Every time I read it I find something new and valuable. I just got these two knives this week, a Great Eastern Cutlery #35 Churchill in Smooth Green Banana Bone and a Rough Rider Peanut in Smooth White Bone, but they'll grow in value in a similar way to this book: as I carry them around with me and find innumerable uses for them they'll accumulate wear and stories that will make them far greater than the sum of their parts.

B B.F.U The pic is not working for me but I "liked" you post just for the story of this well loved book.

Yeah, I want to see what the book is too!

Nice Ettrick, FBC, and that looks like a good book to chase up.

But what's the book?

Let's try this again:

I used Kiwi Brand neutral color shoe wax, Jack.

Thanks r8shell, I have some of that! :) :thumbsup:

Nice Jack :thumbsup:, just one for me today too:

I took the edge on this Sodbuster to 30 degrees inclusive, then sharpened it using the grey stones only on a Sharpmaker. The result is a toothy, crazy sharp edge I really like.

Thanks Tom, those orange Case soddies look great :thumbsup:

This has been this sort of a day:D

Great-looking Stockman Will :thumbsup:

Carrying a Lambsfoot in snakewood by Arthur Wright, and an old MOP penknife by Albert Oates today :thumbsup:

This just in, had watched these for a while and thought that maybe the best Stag was gone. I feel I got a good one here:thumbsup:

Fine pair, Mike! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: Kudos to Cutfinger for his generosity! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thank you Gary. Big dogs are my thing.

Wasn't thinking of that pic when I wrote about "barking with big dogs", but seeing the photo again reminds me that you recently wrote you had neither dog anymore. :( Sorry for your losses, Alan.

I believe that I purchased the six No. 8s in the late 1970's, GT. Five are still unused - may have to mod one or two.

Vintage treasure, Stuart! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Smile-inducing knife, Ron; always a treat to see your osage orange 73 (or the OO stockman, for that matter)! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

The Ettrick helped with some knife restoration for a friend at work. The long handle and fine point made it perfect for trimming leather washers on the handle.

Fascinating photo of a distinctive knife, FBC! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Garden duties today,a bit of a pre winter tidy up.This one was bought and modded for this task.
Cool EO notch, bdog! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Complementary blades, enticing covers (stag and ebony are both VERY appealing IMHO) - dandy pair, Ron! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

thanks, guys. :) the secret is to put some wax on it and then rub it obsessively while watching the Astros win the World Series!!!
I'll take note of that! :D Any particular wax? ;) :thumbsup:
I used Kiwi Brand neutral color shoe wax, Jack.
Congrats on an outstanding lambsfoot (and baseball team), r8shell, and thanks for sharing your secrets! :thumbsup::cool:;)

LOL! I hadn't thought of that GT! Rarely! :D :thumbsup:

There were half a dozen hardware stores in Leeds city centre 15 years ago, and now there isn't a single one left :( Glad to hear that your Lambsfoot is earning its keep :) It will soon be time for that thread won't it? :) :thumbsup:

That Workman is an interesting pattern GT, most unusual, and it's always nice to see your Schrade-Wostenholm Canoe :thumbsup:

I know what you mean my friend! :eek: :D Thanks for the kind words :) Wonderful to see your Guardians Lambsfoot, I love the way your photo picks out the fine grain of the horn, like the hair of an angel :) :thumbsup:
...

Thanks for all your comments on our knives and our lives, Jack. :) I appreciate your willingness to endure (and maybe even accept/encourage :rolleyes:) my often-off-topic ramblings! :D Many owners of the Guardian lambsfoot knives have written about the challenge of getting pics that reveal the nuances they see in person. I find it ironic that an unskilled photographer like me has come up with pics that show intricacies in the horn that I haven't noticed with my naked (and admittedly substandard) eyes! :confused:o_O
That Guardian's Lambsfoot can certainly stand on its own!! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Stunning :thumbsup:

Nice Jack :thumbsup:, just one for me today too:

Vibrant SBJr, Tom! :thumbsup::thumbsup: I like the acute, toothy edges on my knives, too. :cool::thumbsup: (Now I just have to learn how to get them at will. :eek:;))

This has been this sort of a day:D

Kicked my GEC Bull Nose out of my pocket to make room for this one that came in yesterday.

Fancy Friday, Jack!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

I ALWAYS carry this Case chestnut jigged bone CV SBJr that I won in a BigBiscuit GAW almost 3 years ago. It reminds me of all the people and events for which I should pray each day, and that includes Bob and his family, especially lately.

Crackin up some hickory nuts for pancakes this morning.

As a side note, I’ve never seen a crop of hickories, walnuts, and acorns as this year. The squirrels can’t keep up. Since September, I’ve picked up over 30 gallons of hickory nuts. Most are getting planted/scattered, but I culled out some of the fat ones for eating.
