What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Thank you for posting a picture of this one. I have a few 6318HE stockmans, and 2 are different than the other. One is a 1973 and looks just like yours, except for the bone handles instead of delrin. The other two are 1978 amd 1980, and these are more like the 6318s you see these days. They're a touch longer, thicker, heavier, and have a different blade profile on the main blade. The bolsters on the older ones taper down, while the newer ones are more bulky. Same model #, yet a very different knife when compared to each other. I was wondering when this change occurred, and your posting of this picture narrows it down to 1977 or 1978. The older ones are extremely pocket friendly, while the newer ones, while definitely not "large", aren't nearly as low profile. The difference is subtle on paper, but significant in the hand or in the pocket.

The 6318HE is one of my favorite Case models, along with the 6332. Large clip, sheepsfoot, and a pen blade instead of the spay blade. I've said it before, but I'll say it again...I don't do much livestock castration 'round these parts these days, so I greatly prefer a pen blade in its place. I often carry my 1980 6318HE (born the same year I was). I keep wanting to carry my 1973 model, since it's so pocket friendly and pretty, but it's so nice that I can't bear to.

+1 I often marvel at the variations in some patterns from year to year. The '71 3318HE I pictured a couple of posts back is an absolute joy to carry as far as stockmen go. Not only is is nicely rounded in all dimensions, but it's also not much wider than a modern day peanut. That, and the 1/8" or so shorter length makes a much bigger difference in carrying comfort than one would think. It's almost like it's a completely different pattern from it's successors. I also prefer the earlier 70's 6318HEs that I have to the ones from later in the decade - I have one from '79 that is still a nice knife but just seems too "blocky" for want of a better word.

I've been using this Wiseman for the past couple days.

Always liked that Wiseman Dan  I've been carrying my Davison swayback in Ironwood for the past couple of days.

I found this one in my desk last night and decided to carry it today. It's one of the ecomomy Queens; copperhead in blackwood:

Thanks, Nathan. That Davison ain't too shabby either.;) I can see why it ends up in your pocket fairly often.

Queen #9 stockman, perfect size, its slowly getting a light grey patina.
I love the stag bone handles, they are absolutely stunning!

My 2011 forum knife :) been carrying it since I got it on the 25th of december! :D I might carry it ALL year as my primary EDC.

A Ulster 55Y (I think no tang marks)

Carried by father when he worked the range during the 60's at the Triangle Bar Triangle Ranch in Wyoming
Stuck in a Desk drawer with a broken blade when he was a lawyer.
Reshaped by a 1st class scout using a stretch of sidewalk.
Carved many neckerchief slides on the way to eagle.
It wasn't need today but always provides a touchstone to the past when its carried.

Welcome to BladeForums and to Traditional, overtech!

Truly, a bodacious first post!

I have to confess to being a knife snob from time to time. Then, something like this crosses your path and changes your perspective for the better. I've toted it for about a week and continue to be impressed with it's weight, size and overall character.
