What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I used this bone handled sodbuster yesterday to open the presents.

Very nice soddie. I've never lost my love of the simple peasants working knife. If it's a "yallar one" thats just gravy on the meatloaf!:thumbup:

Since its Christmas and I get sentimental sometimes, I'm carrying my Grandfathers 6208 Case Half Whittler today and tomorrow.

Case6208.jpg

Fine old beauty there, Rupe! I find myself just staring into the finely jigged Red bone on your Grandad's vintage Half Whittler.. I can't get enough of that rich Burgundy color.

I, like you need to carry and use(lightly) knives that belonged to my kin and good friends that have been entrusted into my care.. Its just plain old "Good Mojo!" :D

Nice 112, sunnyd ..

Yup.. thanx Mora, she is an oldy but goody.

But, I have put her up for a slipjoint that just I just picked up from my PO Box yesterday afternoon from one of my good Blade Brother friends here. A Dan Burke -- Queen collaboration. She is one stout, heavy duty Cattle knife pattern called the 'Rancher' by the maker. Let me tell you boyz, this dog can hunt! Good thing Dan built in a half stop in this old gal cause she snaps open and closed so dawg on hard you can hear the thing echo all up and down the swamp banks..

Very nice catch there Anthony. Thats a classy setup all the way around... BG-42 too. The boys in the Buck forum almost worship the BG-42 :D
Hopefully ya get a chance to try her out today. Good luck on yer hunt.

I like that one Anthony! BG-42 is some great steel. Let us knowhow she handles for you.

Thanx for the kudos brother. This BG-42 is some incredible steel. I wasn't able to break it in on any larger game yesterday but we did manage to put a half a dozen Quail in the bag along with two good size rabbits. After dressing those out for supper the blade still popped my arm hair. I like this BG-42..:D The rest of the afternoon was spent running off a few drunk trespassers off our land.. :grumpy:

That Queen looks hand made.

Yes you're correct partner. A Dan Burke collaboration. The Rancher model, a Cattle knife pattern. Top shelf all the way!

Thanks Gary. I am still after another Buck or Hog when I go out early to mid week.. I'll let you know soon I hope.:D

babakanoosh,

Nice English Jack. I like your belt sheath too. Did you make that one yourself?

Peter,

Could you take a shot of the Cattle knife with the blades open when you get a chance?.

That is a nice cattle knife. I want one now, thanks.
I'm giving this Amhearst a workout today.Cutting off the felt on the kitchen chairs. It's true what they say about trappers. It is strong.I put a moran edge on the blades in leau of the beveled.

Well since I got my new Case stockman and it's getting cold again around northern Ohio Here's what I've been rollin' today.

I absolutely love the knife. Perfect for daily use.

It's already sharpened a pencil, and opened some puzzles for my daughter.

Some really nice steel you fellas are showing here lately. Thanks for sharing those photos.

Those Queen ranchers are sweet. Good hunting Anthony! That Dan Burke looks "Job-Rated" like a 1950 Dodge pickumup truck. :)

Today I'm carrying my Ken Erickson trapper in one pocket, and this old `60's era Case 6249 in the other. Man, that Copperhead sure takes a fine edge.

Thank you sir, with any luck my hunts will bear fruit this week. No doubt about it Ford, this DB Rancher is certainly rock solid like slamming the door on an old 1950's PU! ;) And how appropriate that I've been entrusted with the Dan Burk Cattle Rancher now, since 3-4 days a week I work and play on my friends Ranch-Farm. I'm more of a Ford & Chevy man though. Like my old 1959 Apache step side. I know she ain't much to look at for sure but she does get out of her own way most of the time.

Ford,

Great Copperhead pattern that 1969 # 6249. Looks like you profiled that edge perfectly and that red bone is just as sweet as they come. What is it about the old red bone on Case knives..

Thanks partner,

Anthony

Man, that's a sweet ride Anthony. I had a 50 model Ford that I gave to my younger brother in 1975, and he put another 20k on it before he sold it. We called that one "Mr. Green" because we had painted it with a gallon of Mack Western green truck paint. I also had a baby blue 1953 Ford F-100 for several years that I really enjoyed. Seeing your beautiful Apache really gives me ol' truk fever again. :)

Sunnyd, that "Buckaroo" protecting your Dan Burk Cattle Rancher, looks mighty fine. Is that a stock one, or did you have it made just for the DB. It looks a little different than the pictures I see on the makers web page.

You are so right. I've done a few old muscle cars over the years and they are fun, but old trucks are, well Old Trucks and are just too  for school. I know once you get the ol' truk fever its hard to shake it loose.

Howdy Tex,

That handmade buckaroo is vintage by comparison to the new ones Ron now makes. But I had a few from a purchase I made from him back about 4 years ago or so and this one fit the Dan Burke perfectly.. So now there are a team! :D

Anthony, I don't know which I envy more, the knife or the truck!
I'm a Ford guy with a love for the look of early 50s to 60s Chevs ;)
That there is one of my dreams to own...

Verry nice all around! :thumbup::thumbup:

Convex?
I know I've heard of the moran edge before, but for the life of me I can't remember..

getting cold again around northern Ohio Here's what I've been rollin' today.

That pic didn't get 1/8 of the way loaded, and I knew there would be a Carhartt logo in it... Probably a sign of living in the north too long, I know that material on sight. :o

looks like I need to get me a cattle knife... seem popular here lately.

I am (gasp) knife-less so far today.. I am barricaded in the den, with the 'net and a good book, and Waylon on the radio; Its -40f out and I refuse to go do anything.

G.

SunnyD, did that sweet little slip case come with the knife or did you get it seperately? If so where? Thanks
