What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

...My brother and I have started a tradition of going to one major championship/year. We've hit:

1. 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst #2.
2. 2015 Masters.
3. 2016 PGA Championship - Baltusrol, NJ.
4. 2017 PGA Championship - Quail Hollow in Charlotte, NC.
5. 2018 - We are going to TPC Sawgrass for the Players next month(not technically a major)

We hope to keep it up. All that would be left is the British Open. Would love to see St. Andrews when it's back there.
That's quite a tradition you and your brother have, @Corn Fed !:cool::cool:

This one is for you GT 5K Qs 5K Qs This old Canoe is one of my absolute favorites. And yes, to answer your question, we have been enjoying strawberries in the Deep South for a few weeks now.
...
Thanks for posting that choice canoe, Leslie!:thumbsup::cool: Strawberries are almost a couple of months away here, I think. :(

Today I had my beloved Blue Alox Vic Farmer back in my pocket made possible because of the outstanding Generosity of 5K Qs.
Thanks again Gary.

Old picture of it.

Superb knife, Randy; I'm glad you can enjoy it again! ;):thumbsup:

I had, sold and regretted it from day one a Fremont smooth oiled bone going on two years now. I REALLY liked that knife and had tried to get one back without success. Then a forum member here had one on the trade exchange. I thought MAYBE a deal could be had. Well this forum member was extremely generous in either option consisting of a trade or purchase. We found very comfortable ground with a great trade for both of us. Thanks Lance:cool:;):)

Glad you were able to get your hands on another Fremont Paul! Try to hang on to this one! ;):p Enjoy Buddy!
Congrats, Paul and Lance!! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup:

It must be the angle, Gary. That's just ye ol Winchester Stockman.
The brass liners and jigged red bone on that Boker is a really nice combo.

Back to the Churchill.

Thanks for the info and the compliment, FBC. :) Churchill seems none the worse for wear, and the background reminds me of a Johnny Cash songfest my daughter and I had a few evenings ago!

This will be part of my weekend carry for the knife collectors show this weekend .
How could I not carry this beautiful Lloyd there

I think I'd be struggling to answer that question EVERY morning, TheFactor TheFactor !! ;):thumbsup::cool: Sounds like you had a GREAT time at the show!:cool::)

Beautiful knives! But my eyes were drawn to the HP calculator. What model is it? Love HP reverse polish notation!
It is a 32SII I have been using since I bought it new in the early nineties. Used some of my hay cutting money from the summer before my freshman year of high school to purchase it. It got me through high school and college, been on many an offshore oil rig, and now helps in my technical sales roll here in Houston. I can’t even use an algebraic calculator without cussing anymore.
I'm the same way. Mid/late '90s I had a 2-line RPN HP (coulda been a 32S - pictures look right) that my brother won in some academic thing and gave me (he also won a 48GX), and later I got a 48G of my own. Instead of learning math I just played Tetris, Lemmings, and some Space Invader game on it. I have a 49 somewhere still that I bought simply because I liked it (was well out of school by then). Obviously I don't lug that brick around anymore, but I use an RPN calculator on my phone. It's all about the stack, baby.
I'd have NEVER guessed when I first joined BF that I'd eventually run across a discussion of RPN!!!:rolleyes::cool::cool:

Splendid pair of 38s, Jamie!!:cool::cool:

Had these two with me today :) Hope everyone is having a good weekend

Another Saturday, another festival with my wife! Let's hope the rain is gone for the day. The Rancher has proven useful as usual; I've used the awl to hang a sign, and the main blade to open boxes.

You hammered the hobnail here on the head, Stuart!;)

I switched out the Shapleigh toothpick (on right) of yesterday for an E.C. Simmons Keen Kutter toothpick today (for dental hygiene reasons only). I picked out the large Kissing Crane (Robt. Klaas, 1980) gunstock stockman to carry for Stagurday.

Outstanding trio, Stuart!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I like those toothpicks, although I'd prefer a 2-blade model (with a "real" secondary blade, not a fish scaler) if I ruled the world. ;)

Magnificent, mitch!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Impressive pair of wood-handled 43s, Copperberry Copperberry !!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: Love the beaver shield!

I've had this in my pocket continuously for at least 3 years now so it's been put through it's paces and has earned the true monicker of EDC.

I like this knife as it has very thick scales, important on a small knife (about 3-3.25") and a useful blade pairing.

Carrying my Two older IXL Barlows today .
The top one is one that I picked a couple of years ago for almost nothing and the bottom one is one that I picked up at the Janesville , Wi. blade show a couple of weeks ago . I do not know the age of either one but they do have different Pin Locations and neither has Integral Bolsters . The Tang Stamps look identical and the Nail Nicks are at different locations .

My apologies, Paul, I missed this. Thank you for the compliment. Alan has given me some terrific advice.

Waking up to yet another grey day and consistent rain, thought I'd serve myself up a dose of olfactory delight/memories of Kenya with a mango

Not boring at all! Plus, it is really hard to beat a fresh mango. One of my favorites.

Have a blast at the show, Dylan.

Thank you, my friend. It was indeed fun. Hectic, chaotic, and a little stressful, but still rewarding.

Admire your black/red pairing, Dylan.:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Your daughter's knife is glorious, in its own right and because of its source.:thumbsup::cool: The red sparkles are incredible, and that knife could be a major award! ;):thumbsup: 2-blade knives are the BEST, IMHO.:thumbsup: (And the knife could be a conversation starter on topics such as foolish fashions and objectification of the sexes, Dad! :D)

Thanks, Dylan. :) Yet another sublime red/black pair from you!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Makes me wonder what your roulette strategy is. ;):D

One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go!! :D I hope you and yours enjoyed the show, Dylan!:cool::thumbsup:

POWbraceletcrossTCbarlow.jpg

Jeff, thanks. In honor of your loss, the story that belongs with that photo.

Little over a week ago was drifting off to sleep watching local 10 PM news when a story came on about Chief Master Sergeant Donald J. Hall, an MIA Oklahoman whose remains had been located and interred in Arlington National Cemetery. I jumped out of bed and ran to a box of my military belongings and was hit by a bolt of lightning ... the POW MIA bracelet I have owned / worn for 30 some years was indeed for Chief Hall. Couldn’t believe it … finally found him ... tears streamed down my face, joy and grief combined ... so overwhelming. There wasn't much sleep that night or the next few.

Had to return the bracelet to family. Internet searches helped locate Chief Hall’s grandson, Aaron Mcgee. We met for coffee and I gave him his grandpa’s POW bracelet. We shared stories and quickly became lifelong friends.

Love to win, it feels good. During my Air Force career won lots of awards. Competed in the Strategic Air Command Missile Combat Competition 7 years and hold the record with three first place trophies for unleashing nuclear Armageddon on millions of innocent people. After tiring of the spotlight, discovered mentoring others to success was more satisfying than winning myself. Other life experiences taught me the greatest honor was to be an answer to a prayer.

But this experience was different … so many prayers … so many years … finally some closure. Returning this sacred bracelet to a family who had sacrificed so much was a greater honor than all others combined. An honor I don’t deserve.

I am a warrior ... a SAC trained killer ... pulled alerts in underground Titan II silos for over 10 years, ready and willing 24/7/365 to launch the largest nuclear weapon ever in the United States arsenal against millions of innocents, quite a responsibility for a 20 year old poor boy from small-town Oklahoma. No one hates war like a warrior. Warriors have seen the horrors of war first hand, countless lives, families, and even countries destroyed. American blood is too precious to waste one drop on those unwilling to fight for themselves.

Thank you Chief Master Sergeant Donald J. Hall. May you finally rest in peace. Thank you Chief Hall’s family. Words can’t express my gratitude and sorrow for the burden you bare.

I never forgot … and never will. Time for a new bracelet.

John, thank you for the beautiful picture and the even more touching story behind it. I also thank you for your service. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of the men and women who serve our great country and the sacrifices they have made over the years. Many members of my family have served and many still serve. My dad and uncle both served in Vietnam, my uncle returning a paraplegic and my biological grandfather served in the Korean War. Several of my brothers have served and some still do currently. It will always be a small regret of mine that I did not choose to do so myself, instead getting married and starting a family rather young. However, whatever support I can lend to our service members, I will gladly do so.

Thank you again for the story, I am so pleased that you were able to serve in the capacity that you have. For our country's sake and that of Chief Master Sergeant Hall's family.

Thanks, GT, and I like the toothpicks, too. Very comfortable. There have been so many similar comments and discussions about the very nice knives and stories that have been posted recently. What an embarrassment of riches! Unfortunately, I didn't get pictures of my day's carry until late (I was watching Formula One/Bahrain with some buddies all morning). I grabbed the two knives nearest to hand and didn't look for another toothpick to carry, so I'm posting them. A Crucible Knife Co. boy's knife (1926-1929) on the left, and an Aerial Cutlery regular jack (1912-1944). At least they have spear mains for you.

Your European multiplication table knife is unusual. Do you ever wonder if anyone actually used that to check their math?

I'm carrying my latest knife purchase today. It's a Buck 371. I sharpened it, then cleaned, oiled and worked the joints. I've got it how I want it now. I am amazed at the quality of this knife for the price!

Thanks 5K Qs 5K Qs it was an experience I will always cherish and already can’t wait until next year !!
