Cool Cover Contrast!

Those ebony Churchills sure are wondrous pieces of workmanship!

Totin' light again today.

Valley Forge Cutlery (Newark, NJ) was founded in 1892 and by 1902 was a Boker USA owned company until 1950. This one is from 1916-1950.

Dat dere's a dapper duo, Stuart! What are the cover materials on that ancient Valley Forge? At first I thought synthetic, but when I read the age, I wondered if it's polished bone.

Love the bolster stamp on those Böker Barlows!

Champion knife among the azaleas (?)!

Yes, it is.

Such regal Queens, Stuart! Now that the firm has folded, I'd be happy to find a gin-soaked barroom Queen in Memphis. :D

I enjoy your "knives at work" pics, Shane; good to see them again! Is that a Case trapper?

Carried these 2 Case Walnut Rogers Jigged Bone today . 2 of the series of 8 from 2016 .

...

Harry
Resplendent Rogers jigged bone, Harry!!

Kind of a boring picture of a couple of plain Jane working man’s knives...

Can I brag about my son a little? He ran his first Boston Marathon yesterday. Even with the driving rain, wind, and temps of 40 degrees, he was only 3 minutes over his target time.

And because it also happened to be his late brother’s birthday, he says he was thinking of his big brother every step.
Thanks for sharing the touching story, Jeff! You must be so proud of your boys, and I hope the race results made what must be a tough birthday a bit easier to bear.

Recent addition. First day carrying it. View attachment 889724
Congrats, @blanco112 !!

Well everyone, I’m in a hotel waiting to fly to Texas tomorrow morning for my grandmother’s funeral. Sad to say goodbye to an incredible woman (though she had a very full and badass life), and also sad I won’t be carrying any knives for the next few days.
...
Sincere sympathies on your grandmother's passing, Karl. Sad time, but I'm sure there are plenty of happy memories to help temper the grief!

carbon steel knife!wohoo!
Welcome to The Porch! :):) (You're not the former 2nd baseman from KC, are you? ;))

Packing a 38 today..;)
Greenbone

Handsome 38, Will! Reminds me of an imaginary pattern - a toothpick pen knife.

Carrying these two today, by Alfred Blackwell and Harrison Fisher, respectively

"The British (and Germans) are coming!" (Apologies to Paul Revere.)

Great photo of your knock-out 26 with dog and springtime in the background!!

I've got this pair in my pocket again.

Preeminent pair, r8shell!! How is the Esquire's model number formatted on the tang stamp??

- some colourful horn :D

IMG_1026.jpg
Swoooosh!! Memorable horn handles!

I always admire that Remington, but I look forward to a day when we no longer see traces of winter in your pics, Steve!

... But I really dig this Carhartt run. Very functional knives, and living in Upstate New York, Carhartt is pretty much a way of life here.

wOTSZsNh.jpg
Thanks for the detailed review of that Carharrt, Buzz! Do you know anything about the Case Caliber knives (Zytel covers?)?

Baked off this miche waiting for the mail to come. It’s here!

Staff of Life!!! Congrats on the 77 Barlow!

Belated birthday greetings, @HeathH !

...
Thank you, GT. I generally try to avoid the use of the word, "Grail" as it is a term that is destined to bounce from one desire to another, but I have eyeballed the Red Sawcut 77s for a good long while and I am very happy and fortunate to have been able to acquire one from the recent run.

Thanks again, GT. I am sure a Canoe will end up in my collection at some point, I am still kind of kicking myself for not scooping up that Case I mentioned. I am sure another will come around though. I will remember your admonishment and take heed. :D
...
This guy is with me today for "Wooden Wednesday".

Thanks for the replies, Dylan, and congrats on another NF Barlow!!

...
Thank you for the compliment Gary! I don’t use the word UGLY when referring to knives. I prefer the word CHARACTER. ;) You have some beautiful knives also my friend! :D
Hmm. I've always taken the remark, "You're quite a character!" as a compliment, Ron, but based on your info, I may have to reconsider!

My computer seemed to crash yesterday so...it's been many hours of back up and investigation ( manual but it needed doing ) If you don't see me for awhile :poop:

Mark Job special

And as the child's rhyme goes ( really a wise metaphor for life )....row row row your boat - gently down the stream - merrily merrily merrily - life is but a dream

I hope your tech trials are not too traumatic, Gev. Lovely pics of your MJ knife and that crazy kind of kayak!!

...Then added one to the pockets at mail call

Harry
Congrats on the new 77, Harry! Your display runneth over, I think!

A Vic Farmer and a glamour Lambsfoot would be top candidates for a literal forever carry pair, Jack!

Congrats on your luck and wisdom, Shane!

Exquisite, Gary! I think the Old Cross red Pioneers look better the more they are used.:thumbsup:
Thanks, Dean. Finding that knife for a price I could justify was quite a thrill!

Mighty fine, GT, mighty fine....
- Stuart
Nice Gary, you have to be the most organized EDC'er;) on the trad forum:) nice carries my friend.

A 2016 pony cut TC today for me:thumbsup:
...
Thanks, Stuart & Paul. :) Paul, much of life seems out of my control, but the knife corner seems like something I can keep organized, so I do. ;) Gorgeous bone on your TC Barlow!

The only thing this lacks is a patina...time to get to work cutting my daily quota of fruit
LnckWwa.jpg
That's a very svelte Otter Messer!!

Good thing you are enjoying the Moore Maker and music because I can't seem to stop, haha.
Yes, Grateful Dead did play "El Paso" a lot. They obviously had good taste in music. :D

Thanks for the confirmation, FBC. Man, I haven't thought of the McKenzie brothers in over 35 years, I'll bet! :D:D I remember playing in a City League championship softball game, tension-filled moments, and a fellow outfielder came running out to take the field singing "coo roo coo coo, coo coo coo coo"! Cracked me up and we won the game against perennial heated rivals!

A 2016 pony cut TC today for me:thumbsup:

That Pony cut TC is IMO one of the most beautiful of the TCs. A treasure, Paul!:thumbsup:

Just packing for a week away in God's Own.
PM31gle.jpg

Have fun, Jack! Looks like you picked the Wright knife for the trip. :)

I'm carrying this Case pair today. A two-bladed congress and a medium jack.

I always admire that Remington, but I look forward to a day when we no longer see traces of winter in your pics, Steve!

- GT

Thanks and me too ! The melt is on and hopefully we will see spring finally in Minnesota

Nice pic! Ebony Esquire and some kind of melon blossom?
Close. It's an ebony Churchill and a squash blossom. Everything's bigger in Texas.
Preeminent pair, r8shell!! How is the Esquire's model number formatted on the tang stamp??
Continues on the other side of the tang. I guess not everything's bigger.

Gorgoeus puic
Thank you, fellas, for all the kind compliments.

I woke up to an absolutely gorgeous day. Not a cloud in the sky! After a few weeks of almost perpetual rain, this is very welcome.

dVOThpS.jpg

Gorgeous picture!!!! And two equally beautiful knives.

Two old bareheads (like me) with me today. An Ulster (1876-1941) with rat tail bolster and a yet-to-be-identified jack(only the last letter "E" of name is legible on the tang). Both are solid and substantial, and sharp.

Last letter is E?
Schrade?

Call me Captain Obvious.

I'll carry an old Camillus 64 today.

That's a beauty, r8shell, even without the shield.

Dat dere's a dapper duo, Stuart! What are the cover materials on that ancient Valley Forge? At first I thought synthetic, but when I read the age, I wondered if it's polished bone.

Thanks, GT. I think that it is a cream celluloid, as there is a slight refraction of light when viewed at different angles (like a cream MOP).

Such regal Queens, Stuart! Now that the firm has folded, I'd be happy to find a gin-soaked barroom Queen in Memphis. :D

I see what you did there, now I've got the honky tonk blues.

@Travman Wow, what a whittler. @pipedreams308 That's a really rad old Remington. Buzzbait Buzzbait Congrats on that bodacious Backpocket. SteveC SteveC Daaa-yum, dude, dynamic duo.

Last letter is E?
Schrade?

My thought, too, but it's the last letter of the last line and I don't know a Schrade tang stamp that ends that way. I'll keep at it.
