What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Just coming into week four of single knife carry, my experiment to see if I get over my collectors item guilt and really put a sought-after item to use. As you can see, she's been used a bit.

I've enjoyed the knife thoroughly but have refrained from posting pictures daily due to being redundant. Anyway, here's the latest. Consequently I have missed pages of beautiful knives. Great photos everyone!

It's not redundancy. As a friend once said to me "you're not predictable, you're dependable." It's just a matter of linguistic interpretation. Post away!

Totin this new to me 78 in Golden Brown Jig Bone! And liking it a lot! :D

A trio of lovely stag mini trappers so far this week, Senhor Pinto!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: How many more do you have??? I can see why the red stag is your favorite!:thumbsup:

Thanks a lot for liking my knives, there was a time when I bought Case XX only (before I started with GEC), so the mini trapper was the one I liked the most, I have three stag, two in jigged old red bone and two in jigged amber bone (one wharncliff)...

Folks who own, carry, and/or use the massive whaler pattern knives, how useful do you find them for common tasks? Or are they primarily a novelty for that cetacean-sized main blade?

I don't think I'm going to carry or use mine anytime soon but they did a nice thin edge on these. They would probably be pretty remarkable for slicing or push cutting chores. Very HD!

Buzzbait Buzzbait and rswanson rswanson , I'm enjoying your ongoing consecutive carry days experiences with your ironwood 77 Barlows!!:thumbsup::cool:

That's a beautiful knife and picture. :) I realized I've been carrying mine for two weeks. I'm usually more fickle.

Echo photo-bombed my picture. I was going to crop it, but I like the way it looks like they're playing hide & seek. :D

Thanks for the compliments and yes, I'll keep posting over the next week of my experiment in single knife matrimony.

Also loving your ironwood 77, r8shell...and all the other 77s gracing this thread. It's a heck of a knife for sure!

Same as you two. This knife is really that good that I don't have any desire to carry anything else. I love the look and feel of the ironwood covers. The clip and coping combo is just awesome. GEC's heat treat on their 1095 is perfect for my use. The pulls are perfect. If I can keep this baby from rusting too badly, this could be a very long and steady relationship.

I do admit to feeling bad sometimes, that I'm ignoring my other knives, especially my scouts. I'm the scout guy, and I'm carrying a barlow. It's like I've defected or something.

Tonight will be a bummer of a night for me. The warm and humid weather is here, and I have a ton of knives on my dresser and a table in the family room. The unused knives need to go back into storage, so they don't rust. At this point in time, that's EVERY knife except for Rondeau the ironwood barlow, and the micarta 43 I use for outdoor work. Pretty much my entire collection will be disappearing until I feel the need for a change.

Buzz, you said it. After I'm done with the 30 days, I'm certain I will reach for mine time and again for years to come. I've also looked wistfully at my row of traditionals on the dresser top but it's not so bad that I feel the Barlow has worn out its stay. The only thing I am really missing is taking snaps of different knives and posting on this thread. But, soon enough!
