What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Great knives, beautifully photographed!

Congrats on the new ebony lambsfoot, Guardian Greg!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: But I don't understand the physics of that photo!:confused:o_O The knife seems to be defying gravity and rules for centers of mass (unless the background is just a photo itself with the knife placed on top if the picture of the post)!??!

Thanks, GT, and congratulations on yours as well!

It’s a real photo, no smoke, mirrors, glue, or chewing gum involved. I think a bit of friction from the galvanized finish on the post cap helped and I bet the bolsters and pivot pin shift the center of mass a bit towards that end. Or, maybe it’s that signature taper moving the mass back towards to pivot. :)

Jack Black Jack Black perhaps we need to have a physics of the lambsfoot discussion in the Guardians thread to go along with the ergonomics of the lambsfoot content. :D

1981 Taylor Cutlery Butter Bean - Made in Japan - new old stock 3" closed. Exceptional job on the blade grinds and the way they nest together. No blade rub. Nice stag. Action is a bit off. Removing 30-year polishing compound takes a bit of determination. Spring is a little bit proud when the main blade is opened. Blade steel is "surgical" but takes a nice edge and seems to hold it well enough for most purposes. The sheepsfoot is awesome.

Great pic.

66 is a great pattern for Stag. I have a Hemlock bone on the way...may have to add a Stag while the gettin' is still good..
I really like this pattern, and I’m contemplating a tortoise shell acrylic... The hemlock bone also looks wonderful.

Found these in a dumpster today, stopped by my local trash collection site, they have a open ended dumpster for large bulky stuff. Well when I threw what I was getting rid of in I looked down and saw these. A well worn case small sodbuster and a imperial Ireland lockback. Well into the pocket they went, after a bit of looking around for more treasure.

I'm a bit behind so I thought I'd throw out the past weeks carry. The Russell Barlow went to work with me several days. When I came home the 77 jumped in my pocket a couple of nights. The single bladed Victorinox got some use as did the Tinker on Wednesday and today teaching at the range. I've got the 66 Calf Roper with me right now. Earlier in the week I got the phone call about Granddad's health and the fact his days are numbered(He's over 100 so his days have been numbered for several years)so I actually carried his old Frontier the night I got the call and then the Old Timer he gave me about 20ish years ago. The worst part about carrying all of these knives is I didn't get to really cut anything significant. I'd really like to have something to cut!!!

Nice shot of nice cutlery. It looks like that rack has been bleaching in your Texas sun.
Thanks. Yes, that rack is well and goodly bleached. I had vague ideas for using it to rehandle an Opinel, some other art projects, but I never got around to it, and I'm not sure if it's usable now. It does make a nice knife stand for pictures. :)

I am absolutely smitten with this stag. These two for me today.

That's a nice one! I like all three of my Lambsfoots, but I expect I'll end up using the small sambar stag the most.
Not on my schedule for this week, but this has been in my pocket since it arrived a couple of days ago:

Schedule, shmedule. :p Sometimes you've got to break the routine for a new knife, especially one so fine as that Lambfoot!

315 315 , I'm sorry to hear your grandfather isn't doing well. I remember the thread where you first showed his old Frontier.

Thanks, it's all good though. I talked to him on the phone but he could barely speak. I'd ask questions and he would nod or shake his head. I said to him "if you're planning on leaving this world don't you think you oughta have one last drink?" The nurse told me he was nodding his head so I asked him what he wanted, he said "gin". So the nurse was going to round up some gin and orange juice. That Frontier will get some more pocket time soon I'm sure.

That's a fantastic photo, and an exceptional pairing my friend :)

That is some nice stag! The 35 especially is just about perfect.

I’m carrying some buffalo horn today.

Very nice :) I keep meaning to carry my own more

Glad you're liking it Dylan, that's a fine-looking pair of knives there :)

Tough to beat a double Lambsfoot day, Jack!:thumbsup::thumbsup:;) How many different double Lambsfoot days can you have? I'll bet it's a relatively large number! :p:thumbsup::cool:

I can do that before my nap, Dean! ;)

Lovely

Remember these? I have the small SOG version made in the 80s I threw on my keys.

Here's something that you rarely see. Remember those cheap knives with the ballchain keyrings. Basically they were a folded steel handle/frame wrapped in leather. They had them in the vending machines at the rest areas and the tourist traps,Bassett/ Trim Trio usually made them and they'd have the vacation place or rest area embossed in the leather handle. Now this pic is not mine but I just wanted to show you what I meant. Most people see this and know immediately what I'm talkin' about.

Back in the late 80s, early 90s while SOG was a name still associated with quality blades, back when they first made the SOG Tomcat, Stingray and blades like the Pentagon, made in Seki. They also made a very under the radar folding knife for the "Professional Businessman" who also might run out to overthrow a foreign government and help set up a puppet dictatorship before going home. (Please Mods it's only a joke, not meant to be political ;) )

The SOG Attache, small slipjoint and large lockback with the large blade measuring a little over 2.7 inches, it makes short work of covert ops. The smaller of the 2 has a non locking slipjoint blade measuring in at 2.0" exactly, it comes in handy for de-animating the errant loose thread without drawing attention while out in the field. ;)

Sorry for the text, just wanted to explain an demonstrate what I was talkin' about.

Interesting post Ted, I still have a Seki-made SOG Government

@5K Qs Congrats on the new Lambsfoot, Gary! It’s a beauty.
I’m going to have to join the club one day, I guess.

Be good to have you ;)

Hope everyone is having a pleasant weekend, and that y'all have a great Sunday. I'm not sure if it's a sin or not, but I'm having another Double Lambsfoot Day!  ;)
