What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Traditional knives only, please. For the umpteenth time.

Sorta like this =

"The "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades" sub-forum is defined as follows:

Discussion of classic Hunters, Trappers, Lockbacks, Slipjoints, Skinners and other classic "traditional" designs...

...In other words, this is a non-commercial knife discussion forum with the focus centered squarely on traditional knives and patterns . . .

If a regular knife user of the mid 1960's would find nothing out of the ordinary about the design, then it's traditional.

That means large Buck 110-ish lockbacks are in.

SAKs date to the late 1800's. If they are not one hand opening, they are in. (See comments on materials of construction.)

Modern locking mechanisms such as Walker liner locks, pocket clips, holes / studs to allow one hand opening are all out. (Traditional liner locks, such as the lock on a TL29, are in.) Add a clip to a stockman, and it needs to be posted elsewhere. By the same token, if it is traditional except for a clip and you remove the clip, feel free to post it here.

We tend to have some tolerance when it comes to fixed blades. But, new designs with features such as glass breakers, are not included in this forum.

We give leeway on materials of construction. So if you have a nice stockman with G10 covers, it's traditional enough for us. After all, plastics have been used on knife handles since the 1800's. Stainless steel has been used in cutlery since the 1920's, so stainless is considered traditional. And even though PM alloys are new developments, that fella in the mid-1960's would never know the difference if he were looking at the knife, so they are OK, too."

Great wood, and as usual with your presentations, great patina!
Off to my 60th Highschool reunion and will be carrying these 2 for the next couple of days . Sorry for having to use Old Pics .

Harry
Have a great time, Harry! If there are any knife nuts among your classmates, you are well prepared.
I think the last reunion I went to was our 30th - 13 years ago. Too many seemed stuck in the past. Just like in high school, drink too much and ignore anyone who wasn’t in the cool crowd. When you don’t drink, and you see the wreckage in the lives of people you used to hang out with...
We ended up having fun, though. Got invited to join a table with some “girls” who I had never known well and their husbands. And, of course, a few guys I played football with.
Now, it's Saturday!

Weird distortion of perspective courtesy of my phone's camera. The blade on the Forum Stag Jack is in reality longer than the Lambfoot.
Nice shot of nice cutlery. It looks like that rack has been bleaching in your Texas sun.
I wonder if the sculptor has ever seen a real horse!

Very cool sculpture! Do you own it?

My daughter and I are off to the big flea market. Not planning on spending much, but last year I snagged two old Camillus, so we will see!
Case Texas jack and big fat sak with magnifier just in case.
Excuse the compost under my thumbnail! Just transplanted some poblanos. Will need to use the little Esquire to fix that.

Enjoying a nice Blond Ale from Slow Pour while admiring my new Huckleberry Boy’s Knife in Antique Yellow Jigged Bone.
Pretty stiff pull to half stop. Flushed it well and nothing came out. Oddly there was no factory oil apparent on the blade or in the well...seemed almost dry. I oiled the joint with Rem Oil and stropped it a bit and have been carrying it all day.

I don't think of myself as a big fan of Northwoods knives or micarta covers. But W:eek:W, that knife with the denim micarta is simply irresistible!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks Gary, and classy canoes my friend:cool::thumbsup:
Thanks, Paul. :)

Your Cajun blackened MAM is always tasty!:cool::thumbsup:

Thanks, GT, I really like those aluminum frames with covered back springs.
You are correct, GT, and it has been my single EDC many times.
It's 3.5", GT and very easy in the pocket. Your Buck canoe is calculatingly captivating is its design. Of your previously shown scintillating sowbellies, I prefer the Buck, but they are all very fine.

Thanks for the additional length info on that toothpick, and for the compliments on my knives. :) What was the purpose of Queen covering the back springs on those aluminum Barlows??

Had my new 2018 Guardians Lambsfeet ( foot ) in my pockets today . Ebony & Horn
...

Harry
Congrats, Guardian Harry, on those two new lambsfoot examples!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I REALLY like the lighter-colored bars on the pile side of the new horn lambsfoot!:thumbsup::cool:

It's a Camillus
Thanks for the ID, Steve. :) (The tang stamp was visible, but this old man just couldn't read it. :()

I admire your support of the local economy, Jack! ;):cool:

Thinking of which, I have the small shield satin blade BB Stockman on the go today. Out at the country place, no camera with me so an old winter shot, shows the 'bark' like quality of the bone.

That photo really captures the character of the jigging, Will!:cool::thumbsup:

Today with one more Portuguese knife...

Handsome knife with striking stag, Senhor Pinto!:thumbsup::cool: How big (or small) is that knife?

Can't let this go by without comment - sensational canoe!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

And a new one for me.

Beauties, Ron!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Bewitching Barlow, @Mossyhorn !:thumbsup::cool: Wiss is not a brand I see often!

That's an excellent knife, Alan!:cool::thumbsup: Copper bolster and shield?? Reminds me of a copper Kabar dog's head Barlow, but with a better shield. ;):thumbsup:

It's not Yankee pinstripes, but still a "Babe" of a knife! ;)

For the weekend, the modified #56.

Great job on the 56, Jeff!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
And I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that knows the "real" significance of 714! ;):p

With me today.

I don't post it every day, Gary, but almost every day I think, "Man, does Peregrin Peregrin have some outstanding knives!":thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

First time carrying this one:

Congrats on the new ebony lambsfoot, Guardian Greg!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: But I don't understand the physics of that photo!:confused:o_O The knife seems to be defying gravity and rules for centers of mass (unless the background is just a photo itself with the knife placed on top if the picture of the post)!??!

Excellent Canoes, Gary. The RR is gorgeous! Congrats on the Buck; and to think you can just walk into a Walmart to get one!
Thanks, Dean. :) I'd have never known about it if @afishhunter hadn't mentioned it in that "Buck Fever" thread!:thumbsup::cool:

Late getting to posting today. For frivolous Fisherman Friday, I'm rolling with this Remington R 1615 Fisherman (by Camillus 1988). This knife shows the cruel curse of celluloid covers, as all of the metal was covered with rust when I found it. ...

Superb job of rehabbing that Rem Fisherman, Stuart!!:cool::thumbsup: Have you actually left the original celluloid covers on, or did you replace them with something similar to the originals?

Chestnut Bone CV Teardrop.

Naturally, I think that's an outstanding teardrop, Dean, since that's the model I own (given my affinity for Case's chestnut jigged bone CV series)!:thumbsup:;)

These, lately: Wrights and Case.

Impressive pair, Jer! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Enjoy the reunion, Harry; I can't imagine anyone there will have better pocket knives than yo have!! ;):cool::thumbsup:

I went my 50th last summer. The guys looked as old as me, but the girls were still fabulous. The guys and i drank our resentment away late into the night (and talked about how great the girls looked). Things don't change a whole lot, except for the better.

Interesting story, Stuart! ;):thumbsup: My 50th high school reunion should come next summer, although I've heard nothing so far. I'm ambivalent about attending.

Having a double Lambsfoot day today ;) :)

Tough to beat a double Lambsfoot day, Jack!:thumbsup::thumbsup:;) How many different double Lambsfoot days can you have? I'll bet it's a relatively large number! :p:thumbsup::cool:

Splendid 26 on the rocks, Travman!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Not on my schedule for this week, but this has been in my pocket since it arrived a couple of days ago:

Thanks, Gary! Any chance you could show your Chestnut Teardrop again?
