What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Happy weekend, folks. I hope you all are staying as cool as you can, the PNW is suffering through a bit of a heat wave...

I didn't realized that I had captured Saxon running in the background until I went to process the picture. Bonus, I think.

After seeing Ron’s (A.K.A. Half/Stop’s) gorgeous 31 pattern recently, I couldn’t hold out anymore. I had to carry one of mine today. It was only within the last year that I came to appreciate these gems. I have to partially blame Rick (Railsplitter) for this recent addiction. You guys are a bad influence on my behavior! ;) :p8D473D95-5511-44EE-9BCA-E915B001FB40.jpeg

I am just going to have to assume that the last 1000+ posts in this thread that I've missed are full of the absolute best knives around. My apologies that I do not have the time to get caught up, that would be a task indeed.

Hoping I can chime in a bit more often.

I have these two with me today. I hope you all have a terrific weekend!

You (and your knife photos) have been missed, Dylan! And you have missed some beautiful knives, like that one....

Great shot of your ebony GEC 44; makes me more anxious to get mine!:thumbsup:

Apologies for my recent absence friends, I have been busy entertaining an overseas visitor (no, not THAT one! :D). Enjoying catching up with this thread despite my snail's-pace internet connection today. Lots of incredible knives being shown folks, I'm hoping the post limit allows me to comment on just a few of them  ;)

A fine pair of knives to start off with :) I also like the Boker oil pens (and it's food-grade mineral oil). I do use Flitz, but not routinely, preferring to let my knives patina

Great-looking knife Leslie

Excellent combination my friend ;)

Thanks a lot GT, that Buck Canoe is a beauty

LOL! Classy chopper Ted! :D

That top RR is an unusual pattern GT  Nice to see your Lam Jack too my friend :)

Smashing pair of Old Friends Rachel

Congratulations! :) Beautiful Lambsfoot, and some great stag there, hope you enjoy using the pattern  Well done @HST :)

Good to have you back Dylan, and in fine style :)

That is going to make a fantastic project, and an amazing knife

Hope everyone is having a great weekend :) I've been carrying these two today (and the past couple of days)

Great field shot of your Ancient 2.0, Jack!:thumbsup: Don't tell Charlie, but I think I like it better than the first ones - but just barely.

A Rough Rider Half Hawk. A pretty darn close match to a Case Loom Fixer pattern, which is not totally surprising if you consider the ownership of Rough Rider and their relationship to a previous owner of Case. Case discontinued the pattern in the 1970's. The closest knife of recent production is the GEC "weaver jack", which had the same blade combination, but was a bit shorter, had a different handle shape, and was of course, bladed in 1095. I'm sure y'all are aware of my preference for stainless.

Really liking this blade combination. I'm not a big fan of half stops, but they are not a deal breaker and seem to fit well on this pattern. Ditto on being bare headed.

I used to have one of those and used it a fair bit to test it out. Some of what I did with it was a cutting foam to fill gaps in many exterior windows before caulking them. The sheepsfoot worked well for that and also for pushing the foam into the gaps of the window using the spine of the blade. I liked how the knife felt in hand and was very hefty. I had no worries giving it a good workout on other tasks due to its robustness. Maybe I'll pick another up eventually, unless I find a nice old case example first (which I would prefer).

What is going on in your picture? It looks like the knife is left sided.

I took the picture with the phone sideways, then flipped the picture to get it to show the way I wanted it with the edge down. I don't normally fuss with picture modification, so it shows.

DEFINITELY a bonus Dylan, great shot! Two great-looking knives too

Thanks a lot Dean, hoping to get time tomorrow to do a proper post on this one :)

Holy moly you guys look at this blue mammoth... Dr. T Dino just arrived 3.5 inches closed

Great pattern, I think, Frank. I wish I still had my version in smooth tobacco bone

That's a beauty !

Camillus #70 today

Thanks, Steve, and back at you.

Jason Good LC in micarta and a Hoffritz with a hunting scene.

I like the Lanny's, but God loves a hound.

Case Bradford Centennial Copperhead, 1979, for today’s carry.

Great choice any day!

These 2 Stagfor me today . Northfield 73 & 72

Stag on steroids. Thanks for showing those on Stagurday.

77% humidity and light rain today, thats not gonna stop me from carrying these two old carbon steel classics. I'm just silly like that. :D

Silly is just another word for "in love".

I didn't realized that I had captured Saxon running in the background until I went to process the picture. Bonus, I think.

Nice pair, but, yes, Jason stole the show.

Yesterday's carry.

And I vote that you carry it again. That's a nice knife.

My daughter said carry this one today, I said OK.

The girl makes sense.

Yes, that is a nice pattern. I have one (though missing its shield - waiting to send it in).

That is beautiful. Someone needs to start a mammoth ranch so more of us can get such beauties. Until then, please keep posting yours.

Ha! It wasn't until TheChunk pointed it out, that I see you have a rare mirror image rediR-hguoR. :p

I'm still carrying my Camillus "Tip Top" Barlow, and have added this little Robeson peanut. I met a friend for lunch and knife-sharpening & showing-off, and he gave me this little fellow. I mistook the covers for bone at first. I said that it was the boniest Delrin I ever seen and it bit me for being disrespectful.

This thread must be more popular than it used to be!:cool: I can fall so far behind so quickly.

Incredible stag, johnny!:thumbsup::cool: Looks good enough to eat!!

76 Stag Outlaw. Butter for my popcorn, please.
View attachment 944083
Speaking of delicious stag, you have a whole meal there, Alan. That Cajun blackened zulu looks very tasty, and who could resist buttery popcorn stag for dessert? ;):thumbsup::cool:

Had the final test for this year yesterday, these two accompanied me studying :D
aic1a4P.jpg
Hope the test went well for you, @SV-97 !:thumbsup: It looks very complex! ;) Two admirable Barlows - the Böker looks real, but the Lionsteel seems imaginary to me!:cool:;)

Congrats on the new gunstock, DelOro DelOro !:thumbsup::cool:

I'm totin' this odd fellow today. The tang is marked OVERLAND GERMANY. Goins' Encyclopedia shows those knives as being imported by Fred Mac Overland (Los Angeles, CA) from 1951-1953.

That's a beauty, Stuart!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: The mark side bone almost shimmers like something you'd see on the bottom of a shallow creek in the sunlight!

Captivating pair, Ron!:thumbsup::cool: I think a likable lad from Leeds carried the same pair quite recently! :)

And yet again... The #66 Calf Roper...

Who can blame you, John?:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That's one of my favorites among your Barlows, Dean; unforgettable bone/jigging!!:cool::thumbsup:

Fine pair of cutting tools front and center, H&S!:cool::thumbsup:

Thanks Gary! I think that the etch is called “Reverse Frosted”.
Sounds right, Lance; I think Böker often uses that style of etch, too. :)

That's a mean green machine, Ken!:cool::cool: Talk about an old school tractor and cultivator (I think )!:cool:

Devastating duo, Nick! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup:

...Your canoe collection must be nearing triple digits:eek: Great pattern indeed and your new Buck is a dandy:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks, Gev. :) I'm not even half the way to triple digits yet, but I do find the pattern hard to resist! :D:rolleyes:

Harry
Notable pair of vintage Barlows, Harry!:cool::thumbsup:

That's a very cool looking lockback. Neat design.
Thanks, John. :)

You're totin' a terrific toothpick, GT. Now I need to find one in my boxes, as I really like that pattern.
- Stuart
Thanks, Stuart. :) I really like big toothpicks with a secondary blade.

I have 3 or 4...
But the one in bocote is the same one you're thinking of. It's just the lighting...the sun was barely up when I shot that.
...
Thanks for the info, Jeff; I'll keep my eyes peeled for sightings of your various TL-29 mods.:thumbsup:

I’m going with these today...

There's another TL-29 mod right there! Nice stag!!:cool::thumbsup:

Charming Churchill, FBC!:thumbsup::cool: Is that a rusty sign it's on? It looks familiar, but I'm coming up blank on an ID.

IMHO, that's an ideal stockman!!:thumbsup::cool:

Shawn, that Barlow's bone/jigging is sensational!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

We’re having our concrete driveway and sidewalk torn out and replaced. So for two days I’ve spent more time outside in the heat and humidity than I really wanted to. ... With this in mind I decided to go with some stainless choices for today’s carries! ...

43332343732_5853b085b0_b_d.jpg
Congrats on the new Buck canoe, Ron!:cool::cool: Sounds like you're choosing the right tools for the job at hand; enjoy the new driveway and sidewalk!

Thanks. It's certainly robust, as well as pretty. I'm still carrying it, getting over the "too pretty to use".
I was thinking about knives I might post in the current "Aesthetics" thread, and my autumn harvest bone humpback stockman was near the top of my list.

Nice group of carries, Gary! I don't think I have seen the RR Congress before; part of one series that you have several of which you have several different patterns, correct?
Right, Dean; the first RRs I ever purchased were a set of 12 different patterns, all in amber jigged bone, and that congress is one of them. :) I thought the congress pattern might turn out to be one of my favorites, but that's still the only one I have.

... For those of you who wonder about the size of the new Ancient TC Barlow, this shot should show just how hefty a knife it is. ...;)

Thank you. I'm just trying to figure out how I'll get it out of the garage!
:D:D:thumbsup::cool:

I'm totin' this 34OT for the first time today. I have no excuse as to how that happened.

Is this the first time anyone has carried it, Stuart?:cool::cool::thumbsup: Looks unused, although I think it's quite old, isn't it?

From the Exchange. 10 Dot (1980) Whaler with Walnut Covers.

Congrats!:cool: Heck of a knife, and the blade etch is something I haven't seen before!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Looks like that will cut up a storm!:cool::thumbsup:

This one has been in my pocket all week.
It was a gift from our forum member HST.

Burnt Stag

Congrats on the fine Wright stag senator, and accolades to @HST for his generosity!:thumbsup::cool::cool: I won a knife just like that in a GAW (except your stag is better ;)) and am very proud to have it.

Friday the 13th!!
aaZNMtW.jpg
Nothing unlucky about that one!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Interesting shape to that knife, GT. I like the look of it, but how does it feel in hand when you’re cutting something?
Feels good to me. :) The "inside" of the bend is spanned by the closed blade, so the "bottom" of the handle feels straight. The bend on the spine side falls in a good spot in my grip, and feels like it gets more fingers on the handle than would be the case for a straight handle. The bend isn't in the middle of the handle though, and the grip is slightly different for each blade.

I’m going to be in the land of cheese and sausage (and beer), next week. I was already in count down mode, that picture is making the clock move slower.
Have a safe and tasty trip, Mike! ;)
