What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Thanks R! Pipp is very resourceful and always on the lookout for a game ;) as she doesn't live with me in town she only plays with the knives when in the country place. Maybe I could train her to find lost knives like truffle hunting? Problem is, few knives are up high in the trees where she loves to climb :D

Well, it was just a theory. ;) I think I've mentioned before that Pipp and Echo must be cousins.

I'm still carrying my little Queen Stockman. I touched up the edges with a fine ceramic stone, and I've changed my mind about D2 steel. It can take a wicked sharp edge!

Enjoying this hot and humid weekday off from work. Staying cool and lazy indoors with some good tunes and fondling this serpentine pen that just got some fresh mango patina. It might just be nap time for me soon. Hope you guys are having a good Tuesday.

I must say I'm on a Opinel phase, as can be witnessed. This friction only nr 10 feels like a sturdy slip joint, just does not "slip". Feels very safe. I snugged the pivot, put lots of grease around pivot, heated it with hair dryer and worked the blade back and forth. Tight but smooth.

Very fine refinements. How did you tighten the pivot - vise?

#72 Whittler today

As always, a fine display, Steve.

Thanks for the Prine recommendation and the Electrician commendation, Stuart. :)

I try, GT, but I've forgotten more than I ever learned.

Does anyone know who made this knife? I know almost nothing about Winchester’s. Did Queen make these?

I'm bumping this as I'd like to know, too. Nice knife!

A few more... It is a true splitback whittler with no blade rub.

And a beauty at that.

With me today.

Pretty pair, Gary.

Very interesting pair Stuart, and your Sheldon Knife is unusual, even for an unusual pattern. I wonder when it was made

Stuart, I look forward to your knives and information. It's like a knife class almost every day!:thumbsup:

Thanks, Jack and Dean. I saw a Wade & Butcher Sheldon patent knife (different handle cover and blade than mine) for sale online that cites 1819-1918 as its dates, but that seems too long ago for my knife. Onward and upward!

We’ve been doing a little driving today! ;) This Sambar Churchill was along for the ride! :D

Yes, you are, buddy. I hope that you missed the terrible weather we had yesterday and today and had a safe trip north.

I like seeing that knife again, Nick. It's a nice knife.

Same carry of course, but the granddaddy Barlow has had some more work done.

No before picture, but I considerably lowered the kick on the pen blade.
The pen blade sat proud with an exposed tip, and I'm actually happy about that because I got to do something I've never had to do before.
It was actually easy, just a couple minutes with a little file and it was good to go.

I don't know how I didn't notice it before though, with as high as the clip sits it should've been easier to open.
Now I can just about pinch it and it's not hard to open now.

Looks good. I need to do that to one of mine.

That's an impressive knife! Proportions are spot on too.
I wonder if Keef ever owned a knife? ;)

They could be! Despite living in very different climes. She's not so well for a couple of days, :poop:something she caught and ate out in the country I think- snake, frog and lizard all get on the menu:eek:

I'm a big fan of the Queen No.26 Small Stockman myself. I like its compact size, long master blade and low riding Sheepfoot. When D2 gets sharp it very much puts carbon or average stainless in the shade. I'm on the lookout for one of those in Zebrawood, seems hard to find though...

Thanks, Will

Thanks, now I just have to finish my gradual reprofiling, I just working on it here and there when I've got time till I get it where I want it.
I don't have much to work with but some sandpaper and a few stones, but I'm managing ok.

Dropping the kick on this knife really wasn't hard at all , and only took about 2 minutes.

If all stockman's looked like this I'd own one by now, real nice.

Thanks Stuart. My wife thinks it’s the nicest knife I have. She has good taste.

I wonder that too and if he did carry a pocket knife, what pattern? I did read in his bio how he and Ronnie Wood got arrested in Fordyce Arkansas for reckless driving and having a hunting knife in the car. The cops didn’t manage to find the rest of their contraband though.:)

If Keef carried a knife it would be a decadent one :D Small antique belonging to Marie Antoinette or Napoleon...or else scales made of human bone..:D:D:eek: Maybe a Wharncliffe, Norfolk type ;)

Lots of posts in the past have mentioned that Keith Richards carries an Okapi "ratchet knife".

That makes sense, the okapi ratchet knife is a popular knife in Jamaica and Keith did spent quite a bit of time there.
