I picked this Queen pattern 13 (1950-1960) as my carry companion today because i like its lines and it will be a good conversation piece when I meet my buddies for beers this afternoon. The 11, 12, and 13 pattern knives have historically been the same pattern (slender body, single California clip blade, 4 1/8" closed length); it's the covers that differentiated them: 11 has bone, 12 has imitation mother of pearl, and 13 has amber (yellow synthetic). During the early years, the pattern was called the Switch Pattern. I don't know if this was a veiled reference to switchblades or not, but after passage of the Federal Switchblade Act of 1958 (Pub. L. 85-623, August 12, 1958) the 1959 Queen catalog displays the knives as the Utility Pattern. Coincidental? In the 2017 catalog, the similar offerings were the Slim Line Trapper (California clip) and the Single Blade Trapper (Turkish clip), both with bone covers.

Beautiful knife. I really like slim trappers, they are among my absolute favorites. And thanks for the short history lesson too.

Some beautiful, elegant lines on that one. I really like the single blade trappers.:thumbsup:

...
Thanks, anyway, GT. It fits my needs and pockets, but it's sort of a mongrel. You are one of the cherished few who liked it.
...
That is a sweet one, too, GT.

Thanks, Stuart. :) Bear in mind that I like almost every knife!

Busy day today to catch up on the gardens after being away for a week to attend the Rendezvous & etc . and carried this very nice Robeson Barlow that I obtained from @Augie ....
Harry
Those handsome knives helped bring in a healthy harvest, Harry!:thumbsup::cool:

Thanks, GT! you always have great vignettes on the multi Quotes.:D
I tend to get kind of enthusiastic seeing all the wondrous knives everyone posts here! ;)

@HFinn I hear you.. Went back to work recently and I really wonder why....nothing but sarcasm, complaints, people playing petty führer... nothing good enough and just don't expect any thanks or appreciation:eek: Nothing like encouragement and support, apparently not:rolleyes::D

Anyway, work is only one part of life, one's private life and interests are always a consolation and guide when work takes on a grim aspect. Nothing like an old friend pocket knife I say!
Here, an old Hoffritz Pen with completely sunk joints, nice long frame filling blades too.

Comely, curvaceous knife, Will!:thumbsup::thumbsup: It looks like it can certainly help to ease the burden of times when work is less than ideal.

...
Thanks GT, I don't recall having seen that Barlow before, is it new?
...
I'm carrying these two today, my Unity Lambsfoot and a #14 Barlow :)

Compelling couple of knives, Jack!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I've had the Rite Edge Barlow for over a year I think, and have posted pics occasionally, but with my rotation schedule, it doesn't show up very often. (I'm not very faithful in announcing my new additions in the "new additions" thread.)

So nice dogs and traditional knives are somewhat similar. They do not pretend to be anything else they are, they do not scare people around them. They just have a task and they fullfill their place with style and grace.

Sounds laughable, doesn't it :D Just a random thought.
Sounds very insightful to me, @HFinn !:thumbsup::)

Fresh polish and ready to go for wooden Wednesday.
Wood and wood on wood looks good, Joshua!;)

There's yardwork in my near future.

It's a 307, in case your eyes aren't focussing.

I never heard of this maker before, Stuart, but as a "canoesseur", that lovely drop point knife certainly appeals to me with its canoe-isn shape!:cool::thumbsup:

K kfalk and DelOro DelOro , I love the texture of the handles on your knives!:cool::thumbsup:

I have been relaxing up in the mountains for the last couple days. Here's a couple pics....

I hope you had a great time, FBC; that's quite a chimney on your hideaway!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Wednesday?
A good day for some wood.View attachment 966154Cattaraugus electrimagician, and Schrade 163.
Dynamic duo, Jeff! That Schrade rope knife is especially intriguing!:thumbsup::cool:

Such a desirable knife, Greg!:thumbsup::cool:

I'm totin' these two Northfields today! ;) :D

Pretty pair, Ron!:thumbsup::cool: (But they're not wooden. Has all your recent travel messed up your sense of what day it is?? ;))

Jack’s gift now safely across the pond and put right to use. After opening two weeks of mail, I needed some parsley.

Welcome back, and lovely lambsfoot!:thumbsup::cool:

Another acquistion from the Rendezvous. Thanks Charlie (@waynorth)!
Very clever pic and striking knife, Ken! ;):thumbsup: Is that a pic of the "inventor" of winter bottom bone, or just a random guy with the correct name?

Thanks for the kind words guys! Gary, we had a ball at the Rendezvous. This was my son's and my fourth year attending and was the best yet!
Thanks for the info, Ken. :) I'd apparently forgotten that this was not your first rodeo, I mean, rendezvous!

Thank you, Gary! You asked my assessment of the Case Caliber stockman; I like the blades and the feel of the handles. On the downside, it is way too thick (but the price is great). Regarding Case's walnut stockman, I agree that it is very good looking.

I like the look of your RR lockback canoe!
Thanks for your Case Caliber thoughts, Dean. :) Is the thickness Caliber-specific, or do you feel the same way about all the Case 3-spring stockman models (x347)? Thanks for the lockback canoe compliment, too.

I'm not sad, but I did carry two teardrops today.

I imagine those two teardrops can actually help dispel some sadness! ;):thumbsup: Does the lower one have some kind of blade coating?

Terrific trio, Jeff! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

This muskrat cut up ingredients for enchiladas last night; first time I've ever used this knife, and it did itself proud. (I'll admit a major reason I got the knife is that I'm enthralled that it has "MUSKRAT" on the tang instead of a cryptic model number.)

I also have this Imperial toothpick with me. It's always on my kitchen counter and I grabbed it before we headed off for vacation. Helped make breakfast yesterday.
