What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I wanted to "travel light" today, so I was going to pick out one of my small knives to carry. I actually had my pocket worn harvest orange peanut in my pocket, then thought about this Schrade (USA) 807UH "J.R. Stockman." I bought it last summer and have never carried it! I found it at the local knife shop and bought it because (1) it's just so darn cute, and (2) it looks kind of like a miniature of the the 885UH that I gave my father about 25 years ago (and subsequently inherited back) -- except for the rounded rather than squared bolsters.
This is the one that got me back interested in traditional knives and I'm so glad that I bought it. It took me a while to get it properly sharpened, partly because I was out of practice and partly because the blades are so tiny I was afraid of removing too much metal. The "staglon" is a bit faded, but otherwise it looks good and is a joy to carry (as I learned today). :)

Not the highest point in Illinois, but close. It is a north south glacial deposit left by the retreating glaciers of the most recent ice age.
After the attacks on 9/11, air travel was pretty much shut down. The location of this high spot, about 80 miles nw of Chicago, made it an ideal location for a military radar installation. I still remember the eerie glow of their huge work lights through the trees uo on the ridge as they worked 24/7 building it.

Anyhow, this huge chunk of land belongs to to the forest preserve district and has some nice trails.
I took my daughter and my dog for a walk through the big oaks, hickorys, walnuts and cherrys, and took the opportunity to bring along a good belt knife to supplant my pocket knives.

Looks like a WWII Quartermaster knife from Cattaraugus . They are some great knives .
