What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I agree wholeheartedly, r8shell. I have a Boker whittler that "had" a gold filigree tree shield that was affixed with a wish and a prayer. I have a handful of Case knives that I haven't posted that are missing shields. I'm going to send them in . . . someday.

Is that the thuya wood "The Whittler"? The tree shield was just glued on the surface of those, so mine doesn't have one, either. At least it doesn't leave a hole.
I don't really mind any more. It gives me an opportunity to find other ways of filling in the shield holes. :)

I don't own anything as nice as you guys Yet and I say yet because after a recent attic find (my attic) I discovered my First knife from Cub Scouts sitting in a box full of Jack knives from my youth. Just seeing it again brought back a memory of the day my father gave it to me. These little knives have a way of bringing back memories of bygone days that a ZT CF flipper will never be able to do. There is a pure magic to their simple beauty and I will be collecting more after some education here at BF's

So tell me what I'm looking at. Did you make the shield or is that artwork directly on the handle or what? It looks fantastic whatever it is.
That is a little ivory disk onto which I scrimshawed a "Boker Tree".
Here's one I did to replace a missing Buck shield:

I've always enjoyed arts & crafts. ;)

Hey, that's really cool.:thumbsup: I agree, the sentimental attachment we can have with traditional knives is strong. I sometimes carry a modern knife as well, and it's a useful tool, but there's just not as much to say about it. Hang around here for a while and you'll read endless discussion about every aspect of these old style knives and the history of the cutlers who made them.

That looks great! I like Bokers a lot, but I do believe there's a magical land where all the missing shields go. ;)
Thank you. My first thought was the old nail-head fix, but it's just too tiny.
If only we, like the happy little bluebirds, could fly above the rainbow to Boker Shield Land.

I bought a Case trapper with no shield. I sent Case a picture and measurements and they sent me the shield to fit for free.

Wife watcher her hallmark Christmas movie. Baby boy playing with his new toy. The older kids playing in their rooms. Baby girl with a new LEGO set and knuckle head boy with new drawing stuff. I’m sitting here thanking the Lord for my blessings and toting my Christmas knife.
