What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

c3uzzvL.jpg

This one ticks a lot of boxes for me: Single slim clip blade, no half stops, just over 3-1/2", beautiful jigged bone, round bolsters, great fit and finish, light pull with crazy strong snap, and it's an unusual pattern (never seen one like it). Since it's built on the medium stockman frame, I'm calling it the 1/2 Stockman :D

...
Feeling tired today, but hoping to put a spring back in my step with these three, the first a sample for next year's Guardians Lambsfoot, the others generous gifts I received from Barrett @btb01 yesterday :)
...
What a memorable trio, Jack!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Plaudits to Wrights and Barrett for providing them to you!:cool::cool:

...
(Incidentally, I think the "What-a-Knife" was a promotion at one time for "Whataburger" (which may have been hyphenated at one time), a Texas hamburger restaurant chain which began in my home town of Corpus Christi, Texas in 1950. They have some restaurants in nearby southern and southwestern states.)

Edit: I have been corrected regarding the origin of the "WHAT-A-KNIFE". See post #130588 by @r8shell. It was an April Fool's joke!

(It would be a great idea, though.) ;)
When I read your unedited post, Vince, I thought, "You mean Rachel's prank was actually based on an actual event from the "old days"?" Little bit disappointed to find that the "promotion" you recalled was really just a product of her fertile imagination and her enjoyment of duping her adoring public, rather than vice versa! :D

That canoe looks splendid, even while high and dry, @Travman; I fear I'm falling head over heels for a Little Indain Girl!:thumbsup::cool:

Dark start to the day made brighter with these two
Amazing array of antler, Joshua!:thumbsup::thumbsup: (BTW, thanks for the heads up on that pearl canittler - too rich for my blood, but fun to admire nonetheless!:D)

Something new for me today, but definitely not a new knife. I've always wanted a Remington RS3333, but they tend to be pretty expensive. I finally landed this one for a reasonable price earlier this week....
Congrats on the new addition to your scout detail, Buzz!:cool::thumbsup:

Keeping it simple but efficient today! :D

Your yeller SBJr is a classic, Ron!:cool::cool:

GEC #14 in Ebony... Again
"She walks in beauty, like the night.":thumbsup::thumbsup: (Do you know the reference, besides Lord Byron's poem, that I thought you'd enjoy, John? ;))

I'm carrying this old dog today, a Camillus 69.

Jeff, you have many stunning stock knives, but this is one of the stunningest IMHO! ;):thumbsup:

Lambsfoot today. A. Wright & Son, Sheffield.
Vince, your AC matches your hat well!:thumbsup::cool: Maybe you should rig up a way to carry it up there!

...
Thanks, Gary! Your BF 2014 has superb jigging. On the beauty scale (1-10) its an eleven!:thumbsup:
Thanks, Dean. :) The jigging reminds me a little of your outstanding Schrade Barlow you posted recently.

I'm totin' the Buck forum knife again today. This really is a splendid knife!
Striking pic, Dean!:thumbsup::cool: Has anyone done a comparison of this Buck with the CSC Forum knife with a similar blade configuration?

Okay Gary you convinced me I must have gotten a bad one guess I'll order another today. :D:rolleyes:
I hope you'll like it, Randy, as much as I've liked mine. ;)

Couple of black beauties, Dennis!:cool::cool: I've never thought about including my two black dogs into the Black Friday thread - great idea! ;) (I, and apparently almost everyone else, forgot about that thread a couple of days ago!)

Don’t carry this one often because of its size but I slipped it in my pocket today. Bought it about 20-25 years ago at an outdoor shop because of the Mauser marking.
...
Very nice :) I bought mine in 1982, carried it 10 years straight. It still sees regular hiking duty
...
I use to have one similar, less the clip point, and it was stamped with "NATO".
Lost it on the way back from the Gulf War.
Thanks for sharing your expereinces with the Mauser SAKs, Wayne & Jack & Dennis!:thumbsup::cool:

...
Back to this one again after going only a day without it.
It must be love!! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup::D

Carrying a pair today with a lot of similar features. Elk, Stainless, Two Blades/Opposite End, and last but not least Both Great Knives :):
dpPrRWJ.jpg
Definitely a notable pair!! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Part of a Black Friday knife buying spree for me involved a couple of Rough Rider's relatively new carbon steel knives, a canoe and a sowbelly stockman. I started using them in the kitchen the past few days to build up a "protective patina". ;) My first impressions of the knives are very positive, but I haven't taken many pics yet. The knives are going to be Christmas presents from my family , and they're pictured here with part of a Christmas gift my 2 younger brothers and I received over 50 years ago:

Today is a Finally Finished Friday for me. When I first started posting on The Porch back in October 2017, I started putting up pics of the Queen knives clad in Winterbottom bone that my late stepfather left with me. ... Today's post includes a #31 (from 1958-1960) and a Queen #9 stockman (from 1961-1971) (of which I have 1).

Thanks for taking us along for the ride during your regal review, Stuart!:cool::thumbsup: IMHO, that stockman is fitting pièce de résistance!:thumbsup::cool:

#67 today

Careful that you don't start a grass fire with that flaming Camillus stockman, Steve! ;):thumbsup:

... (He was a scratch golfer and a fine poker player who also liked to bet on his golf game. He played several times with Sam Snead who told me that his mantra to my stepfather was: "I'll hit 'em, Doc; and you bet 'em.")
- Stuart
Terrific tale, Stuart! :D:thumbsup::cool:

Here they are again in better focus.

That foursome is in fine fettle, Jer!:cool::thumbsup: (Interesting dice. Can you get a standard deck of playing cards represented on dice like that? 13 cards per suit doesn't seem to lend itself well to six-faced dice.)

I've seen that set for sale, and have been tempted. I'll be interested to hear what you think of them. They're stainless, right?
Yes, stainless, and the wood is much nicer than I'd have predicted, although I have no idea what species of wood it is. I haven't used them yet, but they seem quite solidly built. Some gap between spring and liner (bladewell drainage system ) and blades aren't perfectly centered, but don't rub the liners. I couldn't resist the anchor shields, blade "art", and bails. ;)

I must confess the trick wasn't in the photography per se, but in the location. There was a very thin crystal clear sheet of ice floating on that puddle. So the knife floating on the ice, but still technically only touching water. So what I told you was true, from a certain point of view.;):D
Thanks for being a magician who reveals his secrets, David! ;):thumbsup:

Georgia the Swayback Bulldog Barlow today as we finished wrapping the gifts and getting them under the tree . There is only One Knife under the tree this year . That is a new Low for us ....

Harry
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, Harry!:cool::thumbsup: Hope everyone here enjoys the impending holiday! :)

A Merry Christmas from the Northern Lights, Lambsfoot Crew :D

Same to you and yours, Dave!:cool::thumbsup: How long did it take you to knit all those tiny Santa hats for your lambsfoots??:D

A 2007 Case 62032 Texas Jack in Amber Bone. When Case gets it right, they make a really nice knife:thumbsup:

Until now, I've resisted the Texas Jack because of the squarish bolsters. But doggone it, Paul, your pics of that awesome pen blade are breaking down my resistance!:mad: I hope Case is giving you a commission! ;)

Those Cannons blow me away, GT. So much so
...

Thanks for the Cannon comment and music link, Stuart. :) I like the horn section, but I hope my 3-knife set of Cannons didn't have bugs crawling on you!;)

I'd buy that for a dollar! ;):D
...Here's a glamour shot. ;):D

(Interesting dice. Can you get a standard deck of playing cards represented on dice like that? 13 cards per suit doesn't seem to lend itself well to six-faced dice.)
I think they're poker dice. '10' is as low as they go.
Just using them to separate the scuffed plastic from the wrinkled hanky to try to get a background that confuses the camera into focussing on the knives.

Very nice "half stockman"! ;)
I really prefer a single blade, nice thin profile these days as well! So much more comfortable to carry.
