What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

While I love this knife and have carried it nearly every day since getting it in September of 2017, I genuinely hope that 2019 is the year I find my grail, a clip/pen ebony or walnut TC.

I’d like to report a RAoKG (Random Act of Knife Gifting.

I recieved a pm just before the end of the year from one of our resident Porch Dwellers, our very own r8shell.

When I went down for my morning coffee and to wish my daughter a Happy 28th Birthday there was a box on the counter by the coffee pot.

She told me it came yesterday but she’d left it in the car and figured I’d see it when I got my first cup of the day. I saw it was from r8shell and immediately cut the box open. I was very excited to feel the weight and see the bulky bubble wrapped package inside. :)

Here’s what I found.

It’s no mystery that I always loved her Imperial Platinum Edge Serpentine Jack. This little Knife is an amazing piece of Cutlery tech for its time. Long before coatings on tactical knives was popular these knives were were plated with a mixture of platinum and chrome. If you look at the edge you’ll see the difference and result of the polished coating.

I carry my often because it’s esentially a big little knife with a very petite frame it weighs practically nothing and it makes a great watch pocket knife. in the package was r8shell’s which was in way better shape, near mint and in the original box with papers. :) :)

I also had a small collection of Queen Winterbottom Bone/Delrin Traditionals. Upon opening the package that collection increased by 33% immediately. Also in that pile of knives was my first “real” Winterbottom Bone Queen along with a few I didn’t have yet.

Here’s my little collection with r8shell’s additions.

Finally there was the Barretta Bascula, a sidelock folder using Sidelock plates from a shotgun for the handles. I have a Galazan from Connecticut Shotgun Manufactures that was very similar.

Thanks r8shell, you’re a dear friend and I am so grateful of your gift I’m almost speechless
... well maybe not completely speechless. ;) :D.

Here’s a few pics to check out.

Happy Sunday folks, I know I’ll be smilin’ all day and into the near future thanks to a friend on BFC. :)
Pretty darn cool, Ted. Way to go, r8shell r8shell !

Congratulations, r8shell r8shell really unloaded on you. Well done!

So thin and graceful. The blades are the thinnest I have seen from GEC. The blades nest so tightly together and so close to the liners yet I dont have a single blade rub. I predict this knife will see more pocket time than any other this year, it's about as perfect a knife as I could dream up.

We lost power around 2 AM. Fortunately the fireplace puts off enough heat to keep it comfortable for a while. I’ll wait to fire up the generator’s till later this afternoon to see if the power comes back. In the meantime I’ll find something to do with this Victorinox tinker.

Thank you, fellas.

A fine photograph, Dwight, it looks to be a very well made knife. I opted for the same one, except mine will have the clip blade and the bomb shield (I'm a sucker for that bomb shield...). Should be here Monday.

An excellent pairing, Jack. The Ironwood never disappoints.

Dean, that blue bone looks fantastic! It makes me less apprehensive about having it reserved. I'm still not crazy about the bolster stamp but I think I will be able to live with it just fine ;).

I have a wee bit of Stag and a Lamb dressed in Scarlet with me today. I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

that scarlet lambs foot is nice! is that standard or a mod?

Fancy!

These together makes me want to sit on the porch with a little block of red cedar and find what's hidden inside.
Be sure to post pictures of what you find. Speaking of finds, that stag whittler is amazing!

Glad the box made it there safely, @T. Erdelyi . What can I say? I've wanted to send you that little Imperial for a while, and once I decide to send something, I may as well throw a few more flea market finds in with it. ;) Besides, those veneers you sent me a few years ago have given me hours of challenging fun. :)

Thanks I was quite happy with the find. But one of the biggest finds yesterday was the pawn shop itself! They have several more vintage traditional knives tucked away in a neglected corner of the case. I'll be making return trips to "rescue" some more.;)
Oh and I'll have to get the cedar first:oops:, I know where some is I just need to collect some.

Like @T.Erdelyi above, I'd also like to report a Random Act of Knife Gifting.

Just before Christmas, out of the blue, I get a PM from @r redden asking for my mailing address and telling me he wants to send me something. This was a big--but pleasant!--surprise.

Yesterday evening I checked my mailbox, and found a small box from Randy. Opening it, I discovered three knives.

The first one I unwrapped was a small Winchester knife:

This is a neat little tool that fits in a watch pocket, and can supplement larger knives.

The second was a Buck:

This is a cool little lockback, reminiscent of a small lockback knife I EDC'd for years. Cool looking camo handle, too.

The last one I opened was a GEC 15[!!!]:

This one REALLY blows me away! What a fantastic gift! I had not yet acquired a GEC slipjoint, but was looking forward to, having seen so many beautiful specimens on the Traditional Forum. What a perfect knife, from blade size, shape, and material (1095), to handle shape and material (ebony!). If I were trying to narrow down my choices for a first GEC folder, this might well have been the one I would have chosen.

2019 is not a week old, and I already have three new knives!

Anyway, just wanted to acknowledge Randy's kindness and generosity here.

Thanks again, Randy, and may 2019 be a great year for you! God bless you.
