Nobody makes a knife like J.D. Ware!

He works in the Yucatán Peninsula using old Mexican and Spanish coins for the escutcheon. The handles are made from local deer antlers and the horns of bullfighting bulls.

Thank you Paul, Chui Chui , it has been a while. Yes, Jeff puts the heart and soul of himself, Mexico, and the animals in his work. My photographs do not do justice to the bull’s horn. In reality, it is translucent. And the carving on the blade is mesmerizing.

Chui Chui , BTW, I agree with The Chunk, that is one good looking cat!

I worked in a farm and feed store and we sold bolus' and bolus guns for cattle. That was the only usage I was familiar with. I googled and found the same definition. Seems like a strange name for a knife. Maybe it's just referring to the rounded handle?

Bingo. It's not easy coming up with names that are in some way pertinent. When I was a kid we would start the day with trays and trays of bolus in a box and work cattle until they were all back on the grass. When we tuned this knife such that there were no sharp edges when closed I thought it looked like a big oblong pill - thus "Bolus".

A good friend had this knife custom made for me for a late Christmas present. I'm not a photographer and the pictures hardly do this thing justice, but the handle is beautiful and contrasts perfectly with the acid dipped blade. I think this should qualify as a "traditional" based on the handle materials and overall look. It's my first custom blade and I couldn't be happier with it. It usually finds its way in my robe pocket when I first wake up or when I'm lounging around the house after a long day.
