What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

You’re going to need a lot of pockets! Nice Barlow collection. OH

Thanks, OH. I just let the Case Barlows out today. And I found this one sneaking away to get ready for this afternoon's session with my buddies. Bad Barlow!! You missed the family photo.

Stuart, those are gorgeous. On the Daddy Barlow lower right in last pic, did you dye the mark side stag or did it come that way?

I inherited it so it came to me that way, Chris. It is stamped 6143 so it could have come like that from Case (or as an SFO), or maybe someone played with it after Case released it in 1978.

Thanks, Jeff. Like many items of knife lore, this story has many parts, not all of which have easy verification, and all of which is too long to post here. The dark jigged handled ones like I posted were made 1987-1988 by Queen for Blue Grass Cutlery (which owned the rights to the Winchester name/trademarks). Bill Howard (later at GEC) was at Queen at that time, and supposedly Charlie Dorton (of Bulldog Brand knives) was involved. The dark jigged bone is said to have come from old Utica stock. There were BB Winchesters (boxes differentiated by red, white, and gold lettering) made until 1991 with other handle materials (see the beautiful sowbelly posted by @JJ Cahill ). Supposedly, Blue Grass also made/had made Case Classics and Primble (names they also owned) knives at Queen. They all, especially the early ones, are well made, solid knives (mostly 1095 blades, brass liners, NS bolsters).

Thanks Harvey, lovely pic of that old beauty

Like several others on the Porch, I'm totin' a new little Case friend today (they seem to be popping up like fairy ring mushrooms). Like my new "improved" mini trapper, Case seems to have spent time getting this old pattern ready to return to the line (however briefly it may be) in good shape.

As we got acquainted, I decided to introduce him to some kinfolk. He seemed to fit right in, though he'll have to leave them behind to ride in my pocket today. I'm carrying light until I join my buddies later for beers and BS.

You have the perfect pair of lovelies for a hike Dean! I recently picked up the Case Barlow and am quite happy, but that GEC orchard pattern is fantastic!:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you! The Northfield Orchard Gem is useful, comfortable in use and good looking. If you have a chance to get one, jump on it. :)
